The final chapter of the popular Spider-Verse series is almost here! After a long wait, the sequel will wrap up Miles Morales’ story as he faces off against villains from across the multiverse, including a version of himself from another reality. Details about the movie were scarce until recently, leaving fans eager for more information.
Sony revealed the first look at Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse at CinemaCon after a long wait. The footage showed Miles Morales returning, along with his villainous alternate self from another dimension. Here’s a summary of what fans discovered about the movie at the event.
Beyond the Spider-Verse’s New Footage Reveals How Miles Escapes His Evil Counterpart
Wow, just when you think Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse couldn’t get any more intense, it throws a massive cliffhanger at you. Miles Morales finds himself in the wrong universe – Earth-42, where there’s no Spider-Man to begin with! And it gets worse. He’s captured by a seriously twisted version of himself – a villainous Prowler who happens to be another Miles! The final scene is chilling: Miles is tied up, completely at the mercy of his alternate self and Aaron Davis, who are clearly about to interrogate him. Talk about leaving you on the edge of your seat!
The new footage from CinemaCon continues the story right after Across the Spider-Verse ended, with Miles still trapped in the Prowler’s apartment. He manages to break free using his electric venom blast, and in the process, has a brief fight with his alternate, villainous self. This sets the stage for a major conflict between them in Beyond the Spider-Verse.
CinemaCon Unveils Spider-Gwen’s New Team in Beyond the Spider-Verse
The initial preview of Beyond the Spider-Verse shows more than just Miles Morales getting away. It continues with his rescue by Spider-Gwen and her team, who pick him up in a stolen van to help him evade the Prowler. The clip also introduces Spider-Man characters who are siding with Gwen as she plans to create a team to oppose Miguel O’Hara and the Spider-Society, a conflict set up at the end of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Viewers who saw the first movie will remember the Spider-People who help Gwen rescue Miles at the start of Beyond the Spider-Verse. These include Peter B. Parker, Miles’s original mentor, the hilarious Spider-Ham (a pig with spider powers), the noir-style Spider-Man played by Nicolas Cage, and Spider-Punk, a new friend of Miles from Across the Spider-Verse. However, Peni Parker and her robotic companion, SP//dr – both close friends of Miles and part of Spider-Gwen’s team – are not featured with this group.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Will Conclude Miles Morales’s Story
At a recent CinemaCon presentation, the directors of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Bob Perischetti and Justin K. Thompson, suggested that the new film will conclude Miles Morales’ story arc. Miles has been the central character throughout the Spider-Verse trilogy, a first for Spider-Man movies which traditionally feature Peter Parker as the main hero. Despite some fans hoping for more adventures with Miles, the directors strongly implied that Beyond the Spider-Verse will be the end of his story on the big screen.
Even though Beyond the Spider-Verse concludes the main trilogy, the Spider-Verse franchise isn’t over. Plans are still underway for spin-off projects focusing on popular characters like Spider-Gwen and Spider-Noir. However, it’s unlikely Miles Morales will appear in another Spider-Verse movie, regardless of how well Beyond the Spider-Verse performs. This potentially clears the way for Miles to make his first live-action appearance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Will Push the Limits of Animation
As a huge fan of the Spider-Verse movies, I’m always blown away by how visually inventive they are – they really redefine what animation can do! And everything I’ve seen so far from Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse suggests it’s going to be the same – it looks like they’re pushing the boundaries even further with its style and techniques.
Similar to the first two Spider-Verse movies, Beyond the Spider-Verse promises stunning visuals, using a variety of animation styles to represent its different worlds and characters. This complex mix of techniques is a major reason for the film’s delays, as Sony wants to ensure the third installment is just as visually impressive as its predecessors.
What Is Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse About?
I’m so excited for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse! Sony and Marvel are being pretty tight-lipped about the details, but we know it picks up right after that crazy cliffhanger in Across the Spider-Verse. It looks like Miles is on the run from Earth-42 and teaming up with Spider-Gwen and a whole bunch of other Spider-People. From what I’ve heard, a big part of the movie will be about this new team trying to stop someone who’s really taking control of everything across the multiverse.
I’m completely captivated by the core of this story! It’s about Miles desperately trying to save his dad, Jefferson Davis, from the Spot, but the Spider-Society sees it as a fixed point in time – something that has to happen. Miles and his friends, though, believe they can change things without destroying everything. I’m so eager to see Beyond the Spider-Verse and find out who’s right, even though I know whatever happens, someone’s going to pay a heavy price.
Who Stars in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse?
The Spider-Verse movies have introduced a lot of popular characters, and most of them are expected to return for the next film, Beyond the Spider-Verse. The main cast from the previous two movies will be back, including Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, and Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara. Nicolas Cage, John Mulaney, Daniel Kaluuya, Brian Tyree Henry, Mahershala Ali, Jason Schwartzman, and Karan Soni are also reprising their roles, among others.
The cast of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is growing with some unexpected additions! Liev Schreiber will be back as Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin, the villain from the first movie. Jharrel Jerome is returning as Miles Morales from another universe, but this time voiced by a different actor than Shameik Moore. The filmmakers are also holding a few casting announcements as surprises until the movie comes out.
When Will Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Be Released?
The release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has been pushed back several times, making fans eager to finally see the conclusion to the trilogy. It was initially planned to arrive in theaters on March 29, 2024, not long after Across the Spider-Verse came out. However, the film was delayed, largely due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes, and it was already facing challenges in meeting that original date.
Following multiple delays, the release date for Beyond the Spider-Verse is now set. It will be four years after Across the Spider-Verse and nine years after the original Into the Spider-Verse, representing almost a decade since the franchise began. While the date is currently firm, delays are always possible. However, it’s likely that Beyond the Spider-Verse will finally be in theaters next year.
