Ice T Got Asked If ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Will Go ‘Back to Normal’ After It ‘Started Going Woke.’ He Responded: ‘What the F Is Woke? Like I Give a F—‘

As a long-time movie buff who’s seen his fair share of Hollywood drama, I can’t help but admire Ice T‘s unapologetic and unfazed approach to the ongoing debate about “Law & Order: SVU” and its alleged shift towards being “woke.” With over two decades under his belt playing Detective Odafin Tutuola on this iconic series, it’s clear that Ice T has earned the right to speak his mind.

Ice-T, who’s been playing Detective Odafin Tutuola on “Law & Order: SVU” since 2000 and is now working on its 26th season, has refuted claims that the show has deviated too much from its roots and become overly progressive. In simpler terms, he’s saying that the accusation of the show “going woke” isn’t accurate.

A fan commented on a photo of “SVU” set that Ice T shared on X (previously Twitter), inquiring if the show was written in its original form again, as it seemed to be becoming more progressive or woke.

“Ice T wondered, ‘What exactly does it mean to be woke?’ His post gained significant attention, amassing over 4.5 million interactions so far. ‘Ha! Frankly, I don’t care,’ he added.”

Ice-T is set to appear again in “Law & Order: SVU” during Season 26, alongside longtime series lead Mariska Hargitay. Upcoming cast changes for the upcoming season include Kevin Kane being promoted to a regular role and Juliana Aidén Martinez joining as a new cast member. Peter Scanavino will also be reprising his character, ADA Dominick “Sonny” Carisi Jr. in the next season.

In conversation with EbMaster about his previous duties, Ice T made it clear to fans that he’s “absolutely nothing like a police officer” and is actually quite far removed from that role. Additionally, he admitted that portraying a law enforcement officer on television has become increasingly challenging in recent times.

Ice-T acknowledged that some people believe their TV shows portray police in a favorable light, which he understands. However, he clarified that the cop character he plays on “SVU” is an SVU detective. When he was offered the role on “SVU”, Dick Wolf asked him if he didn’t like cops, to which Ice-T replied that during his criminal past, cops were more like opponents rather than objects of hatred. Yet, he acknowledged that we do need them. So, Wolf instructed him to play the kind of cop that is needed, and by doing so, he wouldn’t have any issues with it.

“Law & Order: SVU” Season 26 is set to air on NBC this fall.
