On your epic adventure across the mountains in Black Myth Wukong, an essential part of your journey involves discovering and activating the Keeper’s Shrines. If you’re curious about their whereabouts, here’s a helpful guide detailing all the locations of Keeper’s Shrines in Black Myth Wukong.
How to use Keeper’s Shrines in Black Myth Wukong
While traversing Black Myth Wukong’s diverse regions, you can easily identify the Keeper’s Shrines, as they appear like small, smoky shrines wafting with incense. An Incense Trail will guide you to the unopened one, glistening in the distance.
To initiate a fresh Keeper’s Shrine, get close and engage with it to ignite the incense. Following a short sequence, the interface for the Keeper’s Shrine will become visible, listing all the actions you can perform at these spots.
Keeper’s Shrines function primarily as your convenient quick-travel points across the game. Once you’ve accessed a minimum of two, they serve first and foremost for easy movement without incurring any charges. Given that the game lacks a global map for navigation, it is highly beneficial to uncover as many of these shrines as possible.
You have an item called Incense Trail Talisman in your inventory, which you can utilize anytime (not during battles), to transport yourself back to the closest Keeper’s Shrine.
You can use Keeper’s Shrines to do the following:
- Rest – This fully replenishes your health and mana, and refills your Gourd as well. However, be aware that resting will also respawn any enemies you may have killed nearby.
- Travel – This pulls up a sub-menu of all the other Keeper’s Shrine points you’ve unlocked, and can fast travel to. There is no cost to fast-traveling to any of them.
- Self-Advance – Use this to organize your Spells, reset your Spark points if you wish, and Cultivate Spirits by upgrading their abilities with Will points.
- Store – Here you can buy a select variety of items that include beneficial tonics, crafting materials, and more. You can also sell any gold items you have for extra Will points.
- Craft – Use this sub-menu to craft new pieces of armor and weapons as they become available.
- Brew – With this you can create different beneficial brews for your Gourd, allowing you to make the most of health regeneration.
- Retrieve Spirits – Use this to collect any lost spirits you might have left behind after defeating a yaoguai (e.g. – Wandering Wight). If there are no lost spirits for you to collect, this option won’t be available in the shrine menu.
All Keeper’s Shrine Locations in Black Myth Wukong
In this list, we’ve included all the spots where Keeper’s Shrine can be found in each chapter of the game, along with instructions on how to get there. Some locations aren’t accessible right away and require you to come back to that specific area after acquiring certain items or completing particular tasks.
Important Note: This manual is still being developed, with further additions and updates planned as we discover additional shrines in the latter stages of the game.
Chapter 1 Keeper’s Shrines
Front Hills – Forest of Wolves
As a game enthusiast, I can confidently say that the very first shrine is effortlessly noticeable since it’s positioned right along the primary path from your starting point in the game. Just veer to the right at the initial golden treasure chest you come across, and you’ll find the shrine nestled on the right side of the mountain trail.
Outside the Forest – Forest of Wolves
Following your successful battle against the initial Bullguard boss, pause at the first tranquil spot along the main route from the game’s beginning. Then, locate the tiny gap in the cave wall across from you and proceed through it. Continue on the path as it ascends a set of shallow stairs, and you’ll find another shrine situated on your right side.
Loong Claw Grove – Forest of Wolves
After getting the Loong Scale in Chapter 2, quickly teleport to the Keeper’s Shrine outside Black Wind Mountain, which is located beyond the forest. Then, head towards the waterfall you encountered earlier (it’s on the left side of the area). Use the scale near this waterfall, and you’ll find the shrine situated on the opposite side.
Guanyin Temple – Forest of Wolves
Following your successful evasion or defeat of the Wandering Wight boss (feel free to circumvent it and return later), proceed along the wobbly wooden bridge that meanders around a cliff edge. Be mindful of the smaller Yaoguais you’ll encounter en route until you arrive at Guanyin Temple. After a short cinematic interlude, search for the Keeper’s Shrine on the left side of the area, close to a large tree.
Back Hills – Bamboo Grove
Just beyond Guanyin Temple lies this shrine, which becomes accessible once you’ve vanquished Lingxuzi and gathered the power-up that enhances your vitality. Remember to open it up for a health restoration following the challenging boss battle before proceeding further.
Snake Trail – Bamboo Grove
Starting from the Back Hills region, keep moving along the primary trail. When you notice a diversion to your left, ascend some steps, take it. The shrine is situated to the left of another set of steps, just before you encounter someone who can aid in upgrading your Gourd.
Marsh of White Mist – Bamboo Grove
As a devoted follower, I’d guide you this way: After vanquishing Guangmou from the battlefield, veer right and follow the path. Climb the steep, winding stairs that lead upward, and at the summit, you’ll find the shrine standing majestically in an expansive, open space. Don’t forget to pluck the Luojia Fragrant Vine from a tree to the left of the shrine before proceeding further. This precious vine is essential for enhancing your trusty Gourd!
Cave Interior – Black Wind Cave
Following your victory against the Whiteclad Noble boss, proceed by walking through the temple’s main entrance and into the Black Wind Cave. Continue along the twisting pathway until it forks again. To locate the Black Myth Wukong keeper shrine, choose the right fork and keep going through the cave until you reach another temple gate location. Defeat the minor yaoguais in this area to gain access to the shrine.
Outside the Cave – Black Wind Cave
You’ll discover this sanctuary by exiting the temple battlefield, where you initially face the Black Wind King. Proceed through the hanging fabrics that lead you back onto the mountain trail. The shrine, guarded by its keeper, is nestled under a modest temple canopy, positioned between two flaming braziers.
Bodhi Peak – Black Wind Cave
As you progress higher up the mountain, battling through swarms of smaller yaoguais, you’ll eventually come across a keeper’s shrine perched on a cliff edge along the main path. This sanctuary can be found right beyond a modest temple where you acquire an item that boosts your Stamina.
Grand Chamber – Ancient Guanyin Temple (Secret)
As a passionate fan, I’ve discovered that to gain access to this hidden zone, you must strike each massive bell stationed around the battle arenas where Guangzhi, Guangmou, and the Whiteclad Noble bosses engage in combat. Be sure not to miss the three red chests nestled on the right side of this secret area. These treasure troves are packed with valuable resources and a fresh piece of equipment.
Chapter 2 Keeper’s Shrines
Village Entrance – Yellow Wind Ridge
Traverse the river that greets you at the start of the chapter, moving in its direction. Ascend the canyon walls on the left bank, being cautious of any smaller yaoguais you may encounter along the way. Continue your journey following an orb trail that guides you towards your next objective. This trail runs along the rim of a deep canyon, culminating in a challenging boss battle against a frog-like creature.
Soon, the road will branch off, and you ought to go right. Upfront, you’ll notice the caretaker’s sanctuary, safeguarded by a mythical creature holding a sword and shield.
Bottom of the Well – Sandgate Village
To reach this keeper’s shrine, you’ll first need to complete all the objectives for the Old Rattle-Drum questline.
Valley of Despair – Yellow Wind Ridge
The sanctuary of this guardian is situated on the left side, within the expansive battlefield where you engage both the King of the Sifting Desert and the Second Rodent Prince. Access to it can only be gained once they have been successfully vanquished.
Temple Entrance – Crouching Tiger Temple
Once you’ve navigated the cave from the Valley of Despair, you’ll encounter the guardian’s sanctuary near the grand entryway of the sprawling Crouching Tiger Temple. Don’t forget to take a break here, as a powerful adversary lies in wait further on.
Crouching Tiger Temple – Cellar
To access this shrine, you first need to acquire the “Sternness of Stone” artifact which will allow you to unlock the Cellar section within the Crouching Tiger Temple. After obtaining it, navigate through the temple and slide down the ridge to eventually find yourself in the area where the shrine is located.
Yellow Wind Formation – Windrest Bridge
To get to the shrine, proceed along the mountain trail following your victory against the Tiger Vanguard boss. Encounter and eliminate the Withered Corpse yaoguis on your journey, and you’ll find the shrine atop the path, offering a panoramic view of another temple village.
Yellow Wind Formation – Windrest Hamlet
After battling your way past the crowds of yaoguis at Windrest Bridge, you’ll eventually come across this temple section along the main pathway.
Fright Cliff – Squall Hideout
Following your victory against the King of the Sifting Dunes and the Second Rodent Prince in the Valley of Woe, proceed along the path that crosses a bridge. Beyond a slender entrance, you will discover a sanctuary.
Fright Cliff – Rockrest Flat
The shrine is situated close to where you engage the boss known as the Stone Vanguard in combat. Alternatively, it can be located following your victory over the Tiger Acolyte boss on the long, slender bridge. After crossing the bridge and proceeding along the main path through the cavern, you’ll find it ahead. If you travel this way but haven’t yet defeated the Stone Vanguard, upon reaching the arena, make a sharp turn to the right to locate the shrine nearby. This will provide you with a convenient save point that is closer to your current location.
Fright Cliff – Rock Clash Platform
The shrine can be found beyond the fallen temple entrance, following the defeat of the Stone Vanguard boss.
Yellow Wind Formation – Windseal Gate
You’ll come across this sanctuary following your passage over the bridge where you encounter the Tiger’s Assistant. Continue on, beyond Windrest Hamlet and the cave that lies nearby.
Secret: Kingdom of Sahali – Sandgate Pass
In the realm of Sahali, hidden within Chapter 2, lies the initial sanctuary discovered – this sacred space is accessible only after successfully accomplishing the Drunken Pig quest.
Secret: Kingdom of Sahali – Sandgate Bound
After overcoming the mini-boss, the Green-Robed Tiger Vanguard, located within the entryway of the Kingdom of Sahali, you’ll discover the shrine. Proceed into the open space, and it will be positioned close to a large rock.
Black Myth Wukong Chapter 3 Keeper’s Shrine Locations
Snowhill Path – Frost-Clad Path
In the early stages of Chapter 3, you’ll find the shrine not long after you appear in the area. Just stick to the principal route that takes you towards a snowy hillside. The shrine is located beneath a tree on this path.
Snowhill Path – Mirrormere
Following a lengthy interlude featuring a divine bird character who turns you into a bat, you’ll soar through the snow-capped mountains. Upon landing and the scene concluding, the keeper’s sanctuary will appear before you, nestled under a tree.
Pagoda Realm – Lower Pagoda
As a fan, I’d put it this way: Upon vanquishing Kang-Jin, you’ll find yourself in the enchanting Pagoda Realm for the first time. Follow the ridge, taking down Lantern Wardens when necessary, and there you’ll discover the keeper shrine nestled at the end of your pathway.
Pagoda Realm – Upper Pagoda
Ascend through three levels of the Pagoda Realm, and following the defeat of a Red-Haired Yaksha, you’ll encounter the shrine not long afterwards.
Pagoda Realm – Mani Wheel
After leaving the starting region of the Pagoda domain and surpassing the fourth tier, you’ll discover a sanctuary on your right. Tread carefully as you ascend damaged steps and beams, avoiding adversaries en route, and that sanctuary will come into view.
Pagoda Realm – Outside the Wheel
You’ll find this shrine directly across the branch path from the room where you fought the Captain Wise-Voice boss. It’ll be on the left side of the cavern area.
Pagoda Realm – Snow-Veiled Trail
You’ll find this keeper’s shrine further up the main mountain path area of the Pagoda Realm.
Pagoda Realm – Warding Temple
Keep moving on the snowy mountain trail, knocking over clusters of frozen creatures resembling yaoguais. Once you reach an open wooded area, follow the shimmering scent trail wherever it takes you. After some time, angle towards the right side of this area until the path splits. Take the left-forking path ascending the cliff, and the shrine will be at the top of the steps, situated close to the Warding Temple.
Bitter Lake – Turtle Island
Following my journey through the Warding Temple and acquiring the Fire Circle spell, I pressed forward until a lengthy cinematic unfolded, unveiling that I was perched on the colossal shell of a turtle smack dab in the center of Bitter Lake. To the left of the battlefield where I’d soon face off against Kang-Jin Star, there sat this tranquil shrine.
Bitter Lake – North Shore of the Bitter Lake
Following my departure from Turtle Island, I discovered the enchanting shrine of its guardian just beyond the beachfront, nestled amidst a grove of seemingly eternal yaoguais that appeared to be frozen in time.
Bitter Lake – Precept Corridor
Traverse the primary trail on the island, leading you to a cave. Keep going straight along the tight passages until a fragrant incense trail directs your journey over a bridge. You’ll find the caretaker’s sanctuary on the opposite side.
Valley of Ecstasy – Mindfulness Cliff
Following your prayer at the four Buddha statues and opening the passage at the cliff’s peak, proceed along the path leading through a mountain cavern. You will find the keeper’s shrine situated halfway along this route.
Valley of Ecstasy – Forest of Felicity
Following my victorious battle against Non-White for the second time, I discovered a serene sanctuary belonging to the guardian nestled beneath an ancient tree, marking the threshold of the enchanted forest.
Valley of Ecstasy – Brook of Bliss
Navigate your journey by descending the rocky slope from the serene Forest of Felicity shrine, following the primary trail through the woods. Keep a watchful eye out for any yaoguais you may encounter along the way. Once you reach the point where the path splits, the shrine will be to your right, situated in front of some old ruins.
Valley of Ecstasy – Towers of Karma
Exploring the western expanse of the Blissful Forest, you’ll stumble upon the humble shrine of the guardian nestled at the foot of a hill, not far from the mystical Towers of Karma.
Valley of Ecstasy – Longevity Road
Continue along the primary road in the Forest of Bliss, be vigilant for the colossal Dark-visaged Ruler who throws rocks, and this trail leads to the guardian’s sanctuary, right at the entrance before an expansive open space lies ahead.
New Thunderclap Temple – Temple Entrance
Once you successfully conquer Captain Kalpa-Wave at the Thunderclap Temple entrance, a shrine maintained by this guardian will be found beyond it.
New Thunderclap Temple – Mahavira Hall
To get to the shrine of this guardian, make your way along the direct path through the Thunderclap Temple region (beware, it’s teeming with formidable yaoguais), and then ascend the massive staircase past the two Dark-faced Overlords. You’ll discover the shrine on your left afterwards.
