As a big fan of the show, I was surprised to hear that when East New York returns for its third season in October, we’ll be saying goodbye to a couple of familiar faces. Eric Graise, who plays Bobby Exley, and Abby McEnany as Velma Bruin, will be leaving in the very first episode of Season 3. However, the showrunner, Elwood Reid, has reassured us that this isn’t necessarily a permanent goodbye – there’s still a chance they could return to the CBS drama at some point down the line. It’s sad to see them go, but hopefully, it’s just see you later!
In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Reid confirmed that the reasons for Bobby and Velma’s departures in Tracker Season 3 will be addressed. Reid explained that Velma is leaving to be with her wife, Teddi, played by Robin Weigert, who exited Tracker after its first season. As for Bobby, “he found a great new job opportunity.” Reid added that this doesn’t rule out their potential return, but the writers wanted to focus on developing Reenie’s team further. The news of their exits were first reported in July 2025.
Tracker currently features only two main actors: a resourceful survival expert and tracker who makes a living by helping both the police and private individuals for payment, and Fiona Rene, playing attorney Reenie Greene, who provides legal support to Colter. Although Season 3 won’t add any new regular cast members, Reid told TVLine that the popular character Randy (Chris Lee), first appearing in Season 2 as Bobby’s cousin, will continue to make guest appearances.
Tracker Season 3 Will See a Lot More of 1 Fan Favorite
Bobby is comfortable and settled, but Randy is still searching for direction. Following the events surrounding Reenie – specifically the security breach at her company involving Sharp, her kidnapping, and her boyfriend being shot – she’s emotionally vulnerable and struggling, though she tries to hide it. To improve her security, she asks Randy for help. This leads to a discussion about him potentially staying and working from her office, collaborating with Colter and assisting with her legal work,” explained Reid, hinting at how Tracker will expand Lee’s role as Randy in the series.
The showrunner also shared that having Chris Lee and Fiona Rene working together creates a fantastic dynamic. They’ve said the footage they’ve seen so far is incredibly enjoyable and has significantly improved the show. Now, when Colter reaches out, it feels like he’s connecting with a project that’s already thriving. This is all intentional – the showrunner’s ‘evil plan’ is to feature Fiona more prominently, because expanding her role and world ultimately benefits the entire show.
Tracker viewers probably won’t miss Graise and McEnany when Season 3 begins, because the first two episodes will introduce Russell Shaw, Colter’s long-lost brother. Here’s what to expect: “As Colter tries to understand the surprising facts about his father’s death, Russell teams up with him to find a missing woman and her daughter-a client of Reenie’s. Their reconnection pulls them into a dangerous situation linked to a secret operation called ‘The Process,'” explains the description for the first episode, “The Process,” which will be shown on CBS on Sunday, October 19th. The second episode, “Leverage,” will air the following week on October 26th.
