France TV Distribution Launches Sales on ‘A Night to Live’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As a cinephile with a penchant for stories that delve deep into the human psyche and tackle pressing societal issues, I find myself intrigued by “A Night to Live.” The series seems to be a bold exploration of a topic often shrouded in silence – suicide among young adults. Having had personal encounters with this tragic reality, I appreciate the courage it takes for creators to address such a complex and sensitive subject.

France TV Distribution, a division responsible for sales and co-production within France Televisions Group, will debut the young adult drama “A Night to Live” during the upcoming Unifrance Rendez-Vous event, taking place from September 2nd through 6th in Le Havre.

Globally disseminated by France’s leading TV distributor, “A Night to Live” is manufactured by Wanda Productions, a Paris-based firm specializing in TV commercials production, but also venturing into music videos, photography, animated films, and television series for both traditional TV channels and streaming platforms.

A set of eight episodes, each lasting 26 minutes, is set to debut for the first time in the French competition category at the Festival de la Fiction in La Rochelle, taking place from September 10th to 15th.

“The show ‘A Night to Live,’ originally penned by Margaux Bonhomme, gained recognition with her first work, ‘Head Above Water,’ which earned two Cesar nominations. This was also the case for Victor Lockwood, known for ‘Mental’ and ‘Nudes.’ The series is slated to premiere on Slash TV, a France Télévisions channel that caters primarily to young adults, having previously produced hits like ‘Mental.'”

In the last quarter of 2024, the story revolves around two teenagers, Mina and Ocean, who encounter each other on a Parisian rooftop, both contemplating suicide.

Despite hailing from contrasting neighborhoods – Mina being from the gritty Belleville district of Paris, while Ocean stemming from a privileged high-society background – they find common ground and strike a deal: to seize at least one night’s respite from life, before conclusively deciding if death is their only choice.

Mina is played by Inès Kermas, Ocean by Anthony Goffi (“Déter”).

“A Night to Live,” initially a novel penned by Manon Fargetton, is now a film directed by the collaborative duo Anthony Jorge and Jonathan Cohen-Berry. They previously worked together on “First Love,” which was honored as the best short-format series at the 2018 Series Mania. This production was brought to life by CG Cinéma for Blackpills.”

“Among individuals aged 15 to 24, suicide is the second leading cause of death, yet it’s a delicate and deeply personal issue that often makes it difficult for young people to seek help with their mental health. This was expressed by the creators of the series in a statement.”

“However, a poll by Ipsos for the Pierre Deniker Foundation found that a staggering 95% of young people show interest in life as a whole. To accurately portray this contrast, we chose to tell Ocean and Mina’s story.”

The creators and producers of the show expressed that there’s no simple or generic approach to tackle such a multifaceted topic. Yet, they are optimistic that the series might inspire teenagers to share their feelings with others.
