Angel Studios has unveiled the trailer for its new movie, Young Washington, set to release around the Fourth of July. The film, directed, produced, and co-written by Jon Erwin (known for I Can Only Imagine), tells the story of George Washington’s early life during the French and Indian War—before he became the first president. William Franklyn-Miller stars as the young Washington.
The film features a talented cast including Ben Kingsley, known for his role in Gandhi, as Robert Dinwiddie, and Kelsey Grammer, famous from Frasier, as Thomas Fairfax. Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers), Mia Rodgers (The Sex Lives of College Girls), country singer Joel Smallbone, and Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds) also star as Edward Braddock, Sally Fairfax, William Fairfax, and Mary Ball Washington, respectively. You can watch the full trailer below.
Angel Studios will release Young Washington in theaters on July 3rd, just before the Fourth of July. The studio had a major hit last year with The Sound of Freedom, which earned $184 million in the U.S. and $250 million globally over the Fourth of July weekend. Young Washington, a film about the life of George Washington, is being released to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the United States. Angel Studios hopes to make the film a major event.
The new film Young Washington is being released to offer audiences an alternative to the popular Minions and Mayhem over the July 4th holiday. The Despicable Me and Minions movies have consistently been big hits during this weekend, and are expected to perform well again. However, Young Washington is a fitting choice for a Fourth of July release, as it tells the story of the nation’s first president. The studio hopes the film will become a yearly tradition for families, similar to classics like Independence Day and The Patriot.
Angel Studios has a busy summer planned for movies, starting with Young Washington. They’ll also release an animated version of George Orwell’s Animal Farm, directed by Andy Serkis, on May 1st, competing with The Devil Wears Prada 2. After Young Washington, the studio will release The Brink of War on August 14th. Similar to Young Washington, this film focuses on an American President – Ronald Reagan, portrayed by Jeff Daniels.
