The latest episode of Invincible, Season 4 Episode 7, was all about the intense fight between Oliver, Omni-Man, and their allies against Thragg and the last of the Viltrumites. Amidst all the violence, many viewers are wondering if Thragg kills Oliver. The answer to that question can be found in the comic books following this episode.
Invincible’s fourth season has featured some incredible action sequences, most notably the brutal fight between Invincible and Conquest. In a shocking moment, Conquest violently attacked Mark, even pulling out his internal organs while choking him.
Robert Kirkman and the writing team playfully misled fans with a post-credits scene in Conquest, hinting at another rematch – but they quickly confirmed the villain is truly gone. What a relief!
Thragg is just as ruthless as he seems, shockingly demonstrated in Episode 7 when he tears off Oliver’s arm and dislocates his jaw with a single attack. Does this mean Oliver dies? Here’s what the comic books reveal.
Does Thragg kill Oliver?

Good news for fans of Invincible: Thragg doesn’t kill Oliver! However, the comics show Thragg inflicting a serious injury on Oliver – the same injury – which forces him to stop fighting. Episode 7 closely follows issues #75 and #76 of the comic book, accurately depicting injuries to characters like Thaedus and the major events surrounding the planet Viltrum.
During the fight with Thragg, Mark, Oliver, and Omni-Man are badly hurt. However, Thragg surprisingly lets them live, because there are so few Viltrumites remaining. Even though they’re opponents, he can’t risk wiping out any more of his own people.
After Mark regains consciousness aboard the Coalition of Planets ship, around the latter part of Invincible issue #76, Oliver remains in a healing stasis. He’s recovering with a prosthetic jaw and a robotic arm, replacing the one Thragg ripped off during their fight.
Mark is sidelined for a significant period, leading his mother, Debbie, to travel to space to care for him, as seen in Invincible #80. Later, in issue #87, Oliver returns to Earth with Allen the Alien, hoping Mark can advise them on what to do about the remaining Viltrumite warriors.
You haven’t seen the last of Oliver in Invincible! While we anticipate his return, be sure to listen to the soundtrack from Invincible Seasons 1-4. Also, learn about the show – which some now consider ‘lost media’ – and any potential plans for an Invincible movie.
