The Owens sisters are finally back for more supernatural twists in Practical Magic 2.
Warner Bros. gave fans a first look at the highly anticipated sequel, Practical Magic 2, at CinemaCon on Tuesday, April 14. ScreenRant was present as Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman’s returns as Sally and Gillian Owens were revealed. The new fantasy film, set 25 years after the original 1998 movie Practical Magic, will arrive in theaters on September 11, 2026.
The first look at Practical Magic 2 brings back the Owens family’s famous house, with Sandra Bullock’s character, Sally, explaining that people in their Massachusetts town have always suspected them of being witches. The teaser shows Sally and Gillian (played by Nicole Kidman) living their lives today, but also hints at trouble with shots of a damaged house and a mysterious magical book.
The trailer ends with Sally and Gillian sharing a hopeful moment on a train with Lee Pace’s character, reassuring each other that things will be alright just before the title card for Practical Magic 2 is shown.
During the Warner Bros. presentation, Sandra Bullock shared that filming the sequel felt more like a reunion with old friends than like starting a new project. Nicole Kidman echoed this sentiment, saying the pair’s return for Practical Magic 2 felt natural and right. Kidman playfully referenced her famous AMC commercial, adding, “We return to this experience for the magic it brings.”
The movie, originally released in 1995, is based on Alice Hoffman’s novel of the same name. It tells the story of sisters Sally and Gillian, who come from a family of witches and were raised by their unusual aunts after their parents tragically died due to a family curse. Years later, the sisters come together and use their magic to defeat the angry ghost of a man who abused Gillian, all while Sally’s daughters begin to discover their own magical abilities.
I’ve always loved Practical Magic, even though it didn’t do great in theaters when it first came out – it actually lost money! Critics were also pretty divided. But over the years, it’s become a real cult favorite, and honestly, no Halloween feels complete without watching it. Now, almost 30 years later, I’m so excited to see those iconic Owens sisters back for Practical Magic 2, which is based on Alice Hoffman’s sequel novel, The Book of Magic.
I’m so excited for Practical Magic 2! It’s amazing that Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock, Stockard Channing, and Dianne Wiest are all coming back. Plus, the new cast is fantastic – Lee Pace, Joey King, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod will be joining them. From what I’ve heard, the story centers around Sally’s daughter, played by Joey King, discovering hidden truths about the Owens family and some pretty intense powers. It sounds like all the generations will be working together to finally try and break the curse that’s haunted them for so long. I can’t wait to see it!
