Zsofia Szilagyi’s ‘January 2’ Debuts Trailer Ahead of Venice Premiere (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned film enthusiast who has traversed the globe in pursuit of cinematic masterpieces, I am thrilled to witness yet another remarkable work by the prodigious Zsófia Szilágyi. Her latest offering, “January 2,” promises to be an enthralling exploration of the intricacies of relationships and human resilience, much like her critically acclaimed debut feature “One Day.”

The trailer for Zsófia Szilágyi’s movie titled “January 2” was released, prior to its first showing at the Venice Film Festival. International distribution of the film is being managed by Films Boutique.

“On the 2nd of January, the film ‘January 2’ – part of the Biennale College selection – focuses on Klára, who departs from her shared home with her husband. Her friend Ági provides assistance throughout this transition. In total, they make seven car journeys. Despite traveling the same route each way, every trip is unique in its own way. This film offers a candid portrayal of a woman navigating the complexities of separation, as seen from her perspective.”

“Two days of January” saw Szilágyi re-enter the festival scene following her first full-length feature “One Day”, which was initially presented at Cannes Critics’ Week back in 2018 and claimed the Fipresci prize there.

“The film ‘One Day’ enjoyed a global and diverse film festival journey, featuring its debut in Sydney, New Horizons, Melbourne, Sarajevo (winning the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Actress), Cineast Luxembourg (receiving the Grand Prix), the Hamptons, Denver, AFI, Cork, Cairo (winning Best Actress award), and Cleveland (being honored as Best Film). It also screened at the Berlinale in 2020.”

The movie was chosen as one of the main films at the 2018 European Film Awards and it received a nomination for the European Discovery – Fipresci Prize.

The Venice premiere is Szilágyi’s second collaboration with Films Boutique following “One Day.”

Gabor Greiner, COO of Films Boutique, expressed great pride in their ongoing partnership with Zsofi Szilagyi. In her latest captivating project, similar to ‘One Day,’ she portrays the demise of a relationship with a unique touch and remarkable clarity. It’s clear that Zsofi is one of the most gifted Hungarian filmmakers of her generation.
