With its captivating art style, intriguing storyline, and engaging gameplay mechanics, it’s a dream come true for me.
Officially unveiled by fantastic USA, the upcoming title Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is the latest addition to the popular series of fantasy-themed farm-and-life simulation games known as Rune Factory. Previously hinted at in 2023 under the working title Rune Factory: Project Dragon, this game will introduce two main characters and take place in the eastern land of Azuma, drawing inspiration from Japanese folklore and art. The release date for this exciting adventure is scheduled for Spring 2025 on both Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
A remarkable trailer for the game titled “Guardians of Azuma” was recently revealed by Marvelous, showcasing its main characters: Subaru and Kaguya. Gamers can pick either as their primary character, yet both have significant roles in the narrative. Interestingly, both Subaru and Kaguya are Earth Dancers – they harness the power of dancing, sacred artifacts, and weapons to cleanse Azuma’s realm and combat a mystical corruption known as Blight.

According to the trailer, Azuma is no longer capable of using Runes, which has caused a lack of the four seasons and natural abundance. The Earth Dancers are tasked with rejuvenating Azuma’s natural resources and resurrecting its six deities. This can be achieved by cultivating crops, taking part in seasonal celebrations, and defending against adversaries using various weapons, such as the bow and talisman, which are new additions.
Additionally, they will reconstruct the villages of Azuma, where players can live, interact romantically with various characters in voice-acted situations, or simply build friendships. Combat-wise, these characters can also be enlisted for assistance.
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma will launch on Switch and PC in Spring 2025.
