Euphoria star “can’t believe the math” on Rue’s huge debt to Laurie

The latest episode of Euphoria focused on Rue getting involved in drug dealing to pay off a debt – a situation that’s even puzzled the show’s actors.

The first episode of Euphoria’s third season showed Cassie and Nate clashing over finances and OnlyFans, while Maddy and Lexi navigated their jobs in the Hollywood scene.

The season also includes tributes to three members of the Euphoria team who have passed away since Season 2, including Angus Cloud, whose character, Fez, still appears in the new episodes.

Most of the first episode focused on Rue’s spiritual journey, while flashbacks showed how she started smuggling drugs across the Mexican border – a story complicated by a lot of confusing details.

Euphoria star Martha Kelly says Rue’s debt is “up in the air”

#Euphoria cast does the math on how much money Rue owes Laurie

I was chatting with some of the Euphoria cast about the show, and we started wondering just how much money Rue actually owes Laurie. Honestly, nobody seemed to know for sure! It was a funny conversation because even the people on the show weren’t completely clear on the total.

Darrell Brit-Gibson and Marshawn Lynch wondered if the amount was eighty or one hundred thousand dollars. Chloe Cherry explained it was actually forty-four million dollars, plus a lot of interest, and Rue wasn’t aware of the full amount.

Martha Kelly, who plays Laurie, says the amount Laurie wants is uncertain. Laurie initially claims it’s millions of dollars, which Kelly doubts is accurate, but she’d also accept around $100,000.

After reviewing the game footage, it seems most people were correct in their observations. Kelly’s concern about inaccurate numbers isn’t quite right, as the large figures are actually fairly precise.

The conversation happens at a small food stand called ‘Smoke Shack’. Laurie reminds Rue that she’s owed money, and Rue explains she was planning to repay it, but Laurie’s move made things difficult, as she doesn’t currently have ten thousand dollars.

Then Laurie delivered the shocking news: “You already paid me back that $10,000 nearly four years ago! But, calculating with a 20% monthly interest rate over those 46 months, you now actually owe me around $43.89 million.” And surprisingly, that calculation was accurate.

The conversation ends with her telling Rue she’ll accept $100,000, adding that she doubts Rue can even afford that much. Rue then narrates that this is how she ended up becoming a drug carrier.

The first episode of Euphoria Season 3 is now streaming on HBO. You can find more new TV shows releasing this month here.
