Smite 2 Is not Free to Play (F2P) yet, Closed Alpha Explained

As an old-timer gamer with a decade of MOBAs under my belt, I must admit that the news about Smite 2 not being free-to-play initially caught me off guard. I remember the good old days when games like this were only a download away, no strings attached. But then again, I’m not one to complain about quality over quantity.

Smite, an established MOBA game dating back to 2014, remains popular with thousands of daily players on SteamDB. Its success may be partly attributed to its free-to-play model. Will SMITE 2 be free-to-play?

by using a free key, through Steam Playtest, or by purchasing the Founder’s Edition. This restricted access is to allow us to collaborate with a smaller group of dedicated players as we develop and refine SMITE 2 during our testing phases.

If you’re really into Smite and want to help shape the game’s future, you might consider participating in the current tests. However, if you’re unsure, feel free to stick with the original version for now. The exact release date of the fully developed game is still uncertain as it depends on how these tests play out.

If you’re interested in getting more details about the game before making a decision, I recommend reading the developers’ post along with the provided patch notes. The original version of this game is well-respected and has earned a spot on our list of Top Crossplay Video Games for 2023. Here’s to hoping that the sequel will be just as engaging!
