Pickmon changes name by one letter after Pokemon clone accusations

A game that was criticized for being too similar to Pokémon has subtly changed its name from Pickmon to Pickmos. Developers say this small change helps the game’s name better reflect its story and overall style.

Originally launched as Pickmon in March, this survival crafting game faced criticism for its creatures – called Pickmon – resembling characters from a famous Nintendo series. Players build teams of these creatures, utilizing their special skills to explore and survive in a vast world, and can even ride some of them as mounts.

People watching the game’s previews have noticed monsters that look a lot like popular Pokémon like Charizard and Pikachu. They’ve also compared the way the game is played to a game called Palworld. However, one key difference is that instead of using Poké Balls to catch creatures, this game uses cards.

After receiving criticism, the game’s developer, Pocketgame, said they will rename the game to make it more easily identifiable.

Pickmon changes name to Pickmos after backlash

The game developers announced on X that they’re changing the game’s name from Pickmon to Pickmos. They explained this change is to better reflect the game’s story and the unique world they’ve been creating.

Exciting News: Pickmos is Getting a New Name!

Hi everyone,

From the start, we’ve been working hard to create a special and immersive world. To better reflect our game’s story and overall vision, we’re officially changing the game’s title.

The statement also explains that the new name is stronger and better represents the exciting fantasy world we’re creating.

Okay, so they changed the game’s name, but honestly, the monsters you’ll be fighting – they’re still called Pickmon! Everyone in the comments is pointing out how similar the monster designs are to the old game, and the developers said they’ve passed that feedback along to the art director to take a closer look. It’s good they’re listening, I guess, but it’s still pretty obvious!

Nintendo hasn’t officially said anything about the similarities between its Pokémon games and Pickmos. However, this situation is reminiscent of the launch of Palworld, which Nintendo is currently suing for patent infringement.
