Quentin Tarantino Refuses to Watch ‘Toy Story 4’ Because ‘Toy Story 3’ Is ‘One of the Best Movies I’ve Ever Seen’ and the ‘Perfect’ Trilogy Ender: ‘I’m Done’

As a cinephile with a penchant for film history and a soft spot for trilogies that truly deliver, I find myself resonating deeply with Quentin Tarantino‘s stance on the “Toy Story” franchise. The original trilogy, in my opinion, is a rare gem – each film building upon the previous one, creating a cohesive and emotionally impactful narrative that few trilogies have been able to achieve.

Quentin Tarantino believes “Toy Story 3” is among the best films ever made, and he chooses not to watch “Toy Story 4” from 2019. In an interview for Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, this Academy Award winner expressed that the “Toy Story” series could have been one of the great film trilogies if it hadn’t produced a fourth installment. A sixth “Toy Story” movie is now in development.

Quentin Tarantino stated, “I don’t catch every animated film out there, but I’m a die-hard fan of the ‘Toy Story’ series. In my opinion, only one trilogy truly excels to its maximum potential, and that’s ‘A Fistful of Dollars’, ‘For a Few More Dollars’, and ‘The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.'”

“He went on to say, ‘This trilogy accomplishes something no other has managed quite as effectively.’ The initial film is excellent, but the second surpasses it significantly by expanding the concept to a much larger scale. This eclipses the first. Similarly, the third film does the same to its predecessor, and this kind of progression without a satisfying conclusion is unusual.”

Tarantino remarked that, unlike “Mad Max Thunderdome,” which seemed like a step back after “The Road Warrior” in the original “Mad Max” trilogy, “Toy Story” achieved perfection with its three films. However, the franchise went on to make more movies, and Tarantino has no interest in watching “Toy Story 4.”

Tarantino declared that “Toy Story 3” was extraordinary, ranking among the best movies he’s ever watched. If you’ve seen the first two installments, the ending is heart-wrenching. However, when they made a fourth film years later, his interest waned. He felt that the story had been concluded beautifully, so even if it’s good, he has no intention of watching it because he considers the trilogy complete.

Woody and Buzz are set to return for “Toy Story 5,” a movie being spearheaded by director Andrew Stanton, who previously worked on “Finding Nemo” and “Wall-E.” “Toy Story 4” was released in theaters in 2019 and received tremendous praise. It also grossed over $1 billion at the global box office and won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
