Discord ends “ICYMI” feature used for missed messages and updates

I’m a little bummed to hear that Discord is getting rid of that feature they were testing – the one that was supposed to help you see everything you’d missed in your servers and from friends. It was a cool idea, and I was hoping it would stick around, but it looks like they’re pulling the plug on it.

The company announced that its “ICYMI” feature, which launched in October 2024, will be removed from the app on April 13, 2026. It will no longer be available after that date.

ICYMI, which stands for “In Case You Missed It,” was initially tested as a way to show you recent happenings on Discord, like new messages, server news, and what your friends are up to.

The tab showed you what you’d been playing recently, updates on your friends, and quick recaps of your conversations – some of those recaps were created with the help of artificial intelligence.

Discord says ICYMI removal will help shape future features

Discord has decided to stop the experiment after learning how people prefer to connect with each other in their communities.

According to the company’s help section, they’ve learned a lot from ICYMI about how people like to stay informed about their local communities. They plan to use these insights to improve community features on the platform, and as a result, ICYMI is being discontinued.

Starting April 13th, this feature will be removed from the app. You don’t need to do anything – it will disappear automatically.

Discord hasn’t said what will happen instead of ICYMI, but they’ve explained that what they learned from testing it will help them improve how people stay updated on what’s happening in their servers and with their friends.

This is the first significant update Discord has announced since sharing its plans for age verification worldwide. Those plans were met with strong opposition, leading Discord to put them on hold for the foreseeable future.
