The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping Trailer Is Twice as Brutal as Haymitch Fights for His Life

The latest installment of The Hunger Games is its most intense yet. This story focuses on Haymitch Abernathy and his experiences competing in the Games, a particularly unusual event.

The official trailer, released on April 13th, shows a young Haymitch, portrayed by Joseph Zada, being forced to compete in the 50th Hunger Games. These Games were a special edition, known as the second Quarter Quell, making them particularly dangerous. Unlike the usual 24 tributes, the new movie, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, will feature 48 people battling for survival.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping Brings Back Several Fan Favorites

Francis Lawrence, who previously directed several films in The Hunger Games series, returns to direct The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. He worked with screenwriter Billy Ray and also served as a producer alongside Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson.

The new trailer features Joseph Zada as a younger version of Haymitch Abernathy, a character previously portrayed by Woody Harrelson. It also shows several beloved characters from the original movies as younger versions of themselves, including Jesse Plemons as a young Plutarch Heavensbee, Ralph Fiennes as the young President Snow, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Maya Hawke as Wiress, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Latier.

The film’s cast features Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, a tribute from District 12, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, who is a love interest for Haymitch, and an actor playing a District 12 official.

Sunrise on the Reaping is the next chapter in The Hunger Games saga, following the story of The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and preceding the original Hunger Games film. It’s set 24 years before Katniss and Peeta volunteered as tributes.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping debuts in theaters on Nov. 20.
