Angus Cloud, the actor known for his role in Euphoria, passed away in 2023. Despite his death, his character, Fez, continues to be featured in Season 3 of the HBO series, currently depicted as being incarcerated.
HBO’s hit show, Euphoria, is back after a five-year leap in time. Now, characters like Rue, Nate, Cassie, Maddy, Lexi, and Jules are navigating life after high school and facing the challenges of adulthood.
Despite the reunion, one cast member is missing: Angus Cloud, the actor who played Fez, sadly passed away in 2023 due to an accidental overdose.
Despite his character’s fate, Fezco remains present in Euphoria through phone conversations with other characters. Here’s an update on what happened to him since Season 2, and his role in Season 3 – be warned, spoilers follow!
Fez is in prison during Season 3

The second season of Euphoria concluded with a tense standoff at Fezco’s apartment. Ashtray was killed during a shootout with the police, and Fezco was arrested.
I was totally shocked in Season 3, Episode 1 when Rue went to see Lexi and found out he’d gotten a 30-year prison sentence! He’s actually doing that time right now, which is just… heavy.
Rue criticizes Lexi for not reaching out, but in Episode 3, she’s the one who initiates a call with him – though the scene is shown only from Rue’s perspective.
How Euphoria honors Angus Cloud

Following the passing of Angus Cloud, Euphoria creator Sam Levinson shared a statement explaining his decision to keep the character of Fezco alive in the show. He described being deeply affected by Cloud’s death, noting that while one might expect loss when someone battles addiction, this loss sparked a particular anger – both for Cloud himself and for the many young people in the US whose lives are tragically cut short by fentanyl.
The year Angus passed away, over 70,000 Americans died from the same cause – it was the number one killer of people under 45. I started this project as a way to remember him and all young people who didn’t get to live full lives. I wanted to create a story that showed even in difficult times, hope and positivity could still exist.
I was talking to Entertainment Weekly on the red carpet for Season 3, and I explained how much it hurt losing the actor who played that character. I really fought to keep his story going while he was alive, and when we lost him, I felt like the only way to honor him was to keep his character alive in the show. It was my way of dealing with the loss, honestly.
The first episode of Euphoria Season 3 is now streaming on HBO. You can find more new TV shows releasing this month here.
