Horror Inc., the company that owns the rights to the Jason Universe, is planning the future of the Friday the 13th series. Now, a surprising person has hinted he might play the famous Jason Voorhees. Retired wrestler Adam Scherr, who most fans know as Braun Strowman from WWE, has said he’s interested in being the next actor to portray the machete-wielding killer and his endless pursuit of campers.
According to Collider, Scherr attended Fantastic Fest 2025 to promote his upcoming film, Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon. The ex-wrestler took a moment to answer questions, and when asked which horror series he’d like to be a part of, he stated plainly, “Oh, Friday the 13th. Jason.” Furthermore, Scherr hinted that he might already be discussing the possibility of playing the vengeful killer in the next installment of the Jason Universe:
I’ve been discussing this with people I know and my agency. If everyone could agree and let things move forward, I could potentially become the next Voorhees.
What’s Next in the ‘Friday the 13th’ Franchise?
Paramount Pictures
The situation with the Friday the 13th franchise is incredibly complex, making it hard to explain accurately. What began as a straightforward slasher series has become a confusing mix of different ideas and paths. This is all due to a legal battle over the rights, which resulted in a very complicated outcome. Therefore, the most sensible approach is to consider what the future might hold for Friday the 13th. That is, assuming there *is* a future for Friday the 13th at all.
As a longtime horror fan, it’s a little sad to see what’s happened with Friday the 13th. After years of legal battles, what’s emerged is the Jason Universe, which is basically a reboot of the Jason Voorhees brand. Honestly, it makes me worry that this could be the end of Friday the 13th as we remember it, since the original creators couldn’t come to an agreement that worked for everyone. I get that horror is cyclical and appeals to new generations, but the Jason Universe just feels…forced. Like a clumsy attempt to sell something without much imagination. Friday the 13th was a movie series, a collection of films I grew up with, but the Jason Universe feels less like that and more like a product, a brand trying to capitalize on nostalgia.
Regarding the future of the Friday the 13th series, and Jason Voorhees himself, Peacock and A24 are collaborating on the official prequel, Crystal Lake. This TV series will explore the events leading up to the 1980 film, meaning Jason is still years away from becoming the iconic slasher we know. The story centers around Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s childhood death, and the resulting violence.
Regarding projects that haven’t been officially revealed yet, Robbie Barsamian, a leader at Horror Inc., recently mentioned they’re developing a new video game and a follow-up movie. This could be what Scherr was hinting at. Regardless, it seems Jason Voorhees is back, although there hasn’t been an official announcement about the character’s future. Several weeks ago, the famous killer reappeared in a short film that felt like a sequel, giving fans a first look at what the Jason Universe might hold.
