Starting in April 2026, US HBO Max subscribers will no longer be able to watch a number of well-known movies. Streaming services often remove content when licensing agreements end or new deals are made, which can be annoying for viewers. This will happen again next month, as HBO Max is taking down nearly two dozen titles.
As a movie and TV fanatic, this really stings for HBO Max. They’ve got so much great stuff because they’re part of Warner Bros. Discovery, you know? And honestly, it’s all happening at a weird time for Warner Bros. Discovery, with rumors swirling about a possible merger with Paramount and Skydance – it just adds to the confusion.
If you’re interested in watching these films, be sure to do so before April 30th, as they will be taken down then.
All the Major Movies Leaving HBO Max in April 2026
Spider-Man

You can currently watch the live-action Spider-Man movies—including Tobey Maguire’s original trilogy and Andrew Garfield’s two Amazing Spider-Man films—on HBO Max. These movies were originally separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but Spider-Man: No Way Home connected them all, making them essential viewing for anyone following the MCU storyline.
At the end of the month, the five previous Spider-Man movies from Sony will no longer be available on HBO Max. This change happens around the same time Disney+ is preparing to offer all three of its Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man films.
Chronicle

Before directing the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot, Josh Trank made his debut as a superhero film director with the unique found-footage movie Chronicle. Released in 2012, Chronicle brought Trank to prominence and helped launch the acting careers of stars Michael B. Jordan and Dane DeHaan, who played three teenagers who suddenly develop incredible powers.
Ex Machina

I still think about Ex Machina all the time – it’s one of those sci-fi movies that really stuck with me. When it came out in 2014, directed by Alex Garland (who also did Civil War), it was nominated for two Oscars, and honestly, it feels even more relevant today. The performances by Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander, and Oscar Isaac are amazing, and the movie really makes you think about what it means for AI to become truly aware, and what our responsibilities are when technology gets so advanced.
Inception

Even after 16 years, Inception remains a standout film in Christopher Nolan’s career. This complex science fiction movie centers around a team who use dream-sharing technology to steal information and plant ideas in people’s minds.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer

Yorgos Lanthimos’ 2017 psychological thriller, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, starring Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, and Barry Keoghan, has become a fan favorite. The film tells a disturbing story about a family whose lives are disrupted when they befriend a strange teenage boy, and then begin to experience a series of unexplained illnesses.
Little Miss Sunshine

I recently revisited Little Miss Sunshine, and wow, it still holds up! It’s amazing to think this quirky, heartwarming comedy is nearing its 20th anniversary in 2026 and remains a true classic. The film centers around a wonderfully dysfunctional family and their cross-country road trip to get their young daughter, played brilliantly by a then-unknown Abigail Breslin, to a beauty pageant. It’s a genuinely funny and touching film that I highly recommend.
Ne Zha

The 2019 Chinese animated film Ne Zha led to one of the biggest sequels ever made in 2025. The original movie tells a story rooted in Chinese mythology, focusing on a young boy who is reborn as a demon and must decide whether to follow a path of good or evil.
Past Lives

Celine Song’s critically acclaimed film, Past Lives, tells a unique love story starring Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro. The movie explores themes of lost connections and past relationships, and it was nominated for two Academy Awards in 2024.
Besides the well-known shows leaving soon, HBO Max will also remove these films by April 30th, so you have just a few weeks left to watch them on the service.
