Jamie Lee Curtis Reacts to ‘Freaky Friday 2’ Paparazzi Photo Leak, Calls It an ‘Intrusion’ of Filmmaking: ‘We’ve Tried So Hard to Keep Our Story a Secret’

As a seasoned movie critic with over four decades of experiencing the highs and lows of Hollywood, I must say that the return of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan to the big screen for “Freakier Friday 2” has me more than just a little excited!

Jamie Lee Curtis offered an optimistic take on a leaked paparazzi picture from the set of “Freakier Friday,” the soon-to-be-released sequel to the original “Freaky Friday.” The movie, which is now in post-production, brings back Curtis and her initial co-star Lindsay Lohan. A photograph showing the two actresses filming a beach scene was shared online without authorization.

“Since other platforms have shared a paparazzi image, I’m seizing the opportunity to reveal a glimpse into the filmmaking process of ‘Freaky Friday,’ Curtis expressed on Instagram. Despite our efforts to maintain secrecy and privacy about the project until its release, occasional images surface. These images may not disclose anything about the storyline or character development, but they do reflect the excitement and camaraderie we experienced during the making of ‘Freaky Friday.’ This is a taste of what you can expect in theaters next year.”

Absolutely, as you understood…the cinemas, the venues, she emphasized. They’re where we gather to partake in a communal moment in the shadows, savoring popcorn, sweets, and sharing laughter or tears. For now, until our next visit.

Before the official end of filming for the sequel, Lohan expressed on her own Instagram post that “my heart feels incredibly full.”

“Lohan remarked, ‘It’s been an absolute delight working on this movie.’ The fantastic cast, team, and Disney Studios have poured countless hours of dedication and affection into its creation. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been a part of it – a tale revolving around family, mothers, and their children, brimming with love, humor, and plenty of heart. Working alongside my dear friend Jamie Lee Curtis has added even more magic to the experience, as she consistently brings laughter and positive energy to our set every day.'”

Disney hasn’t revealed the storyline for “Freakier Friday 2” yet, but it’s set to hit cinemas in 2025. The initial movie earned $160 million globally at the box office. Lindsay Lohan and Mark Harmon, along with Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao from the original cast are returning for this sequel. In addition, some new faces joining the production include Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Sophia Hammons.
