7 Best Legend of Zelda Games

Among these eight games, any one of them will undoubtedly introduce your friend to the captivating world of The Legend of Zelda series. If you’re eager to embark on an exciting journey as Link, consider giving these games a try before starting your adventure.

7 – Breath of the Wild

Zelda Games Tier List

Among Tears of the Kingdom, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild boasts the most extensive game map. This expansiveness offers countless hours of discovery, quests, Korok seed hunting, and a myriad of other activities that players can dream up. This freedom sparks creativity, leading to an online community sharing unconventional puzzle-solving strategies, unique ways to soar Link through the sky, and more. It attracted a new generation of Zelda enthusiasts, thereby solidifying its status as one of the greatest Zelda games ever made.

6 – Spirit Tracks

Zelda Games Tier List

As a devoted fan, I must say that Link has always explored his fantastical worlds by horseback, bird-riding, boating, or simply strolling on foot. However, in the game “Spirit Tracks,” he breaks free from tradition and becomes a Train Engineer, navigating the world atop a locomotive. Some gamers argue that the train’s pace can be sluggish, but I find that managing enemy trains, wildlife, and other obstacles on the tracks adds an exciting layer of challenge. Moreover, the game’s dungeons offer engaging mechanics, such as using Zelda’s spirit to possess Phantom knights within the dungeon to solve puzzles, distract enemies, and more. These captivating elements make “Spirit Tracks” a delightful gaming experience, earning it a worthy sixth place in my personal rankings.

5 – Wind Waker

Zelda Games Tier List

In Phantom Hourglass, you primarily control Linebeck’s ship, but in Wind Waker, it’s you who captains your own boat within the Legend of Zelda series. This setup offers an unprecedented level of freedom to explore the vast world according to your whims, sailing around aimlessly, weaving between islands, or choosing any other adventure that tickles your fancy. The HD version enhances this exploration experience with the addition of the Swift Sail, a feature that boosts speed and allows players to sail against the wind. Moreover, the game begins with a more impactful storyline as Link sets out on a mission to rescue his kidnapped younger sister. Lastly, its whimsical aesthetic makes it accessible to gamers of all ages, solidifying its position as one of the top five Zelda games ever made.

4 – The Legend of Zelda

Zelda Games Tier List

Every gamer has heard the phrase “It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this.” at least once in their life. I think that the widespread usage of this phrase combined with how long the Legend of Zelda franchise has continued to thrive says a lot about the importance of the original game. Its 2D art style and iconic soundtrack are well-loved to this day, and its story continues to serve as the foundation of the Legend of Zelda universe. The game’s beloved tale, iconic sounds, and the nostalgia that surrounds it are all it needs to rest safely in spot number four.

3 – Ocarina of Time (N64)

Zelda Games Tier List

The Nintendo 64 edition of Ocarina of Time shares the second spot with Majora’s Mask. While many people rank it third because they played it as kids and feel nostalgic about it, there are other reasons why it deserves this position. For example, the cutscenes in the game have a lively quality, such as when the fairy accidentally hits the fence while waking Link at the start. Although the graphics aren’t as polished as newer versions, each location feels vast and alive, complete with its own unique musical score.

2 – Majora’s Mask (N64)

Zelda Games Tier List

Majora’s Mask and Ocarina of Time are pretty much tied for second place in my book. This refers specifically to the originals, as they have an eeriness and difficulty to them that I feel the 3DS versions did not. Majora’s Mask gives you the ability to enjoy a variety of different abilities by putting on masks and obtaining their powers. Several of these masks will allow you to take the form of different species in the game, giving you a new way to play rather than remaining the same Link for the entire game. It’s hard to get bored when exploring the game’s many avenues and learning to use all of Link’s abilities to your advantage. For this reason, the original Majora’s Mask deserves the second-place spot on our list.

1 – Twilight Princess

Zelda Games Tier List

If you know me, it’s no secret that I believe Twilight Princess is the best Legend of Zelda game known to mankind. Its visuals are the perfect blend of dark and moody aesthetics and bright and lively visuals that make the world of Hyrule feel alive and under duress. Additionally, its characters are well thought-out, there are tons of side quests and content to complete, and the story itself is mesmerizing. It also contains the Malo Mart, which has one of the best musical themes in the Legend of Zelda universe. This is the first game I’d mention to anyone wanting to try a new Legend of Zelda title.
