Hasan reveals he won’t attend TwitchCon over safety concerns as more streamers back out

Twitch streamer Hasan is the newest content creator to announce he won’t be going to TwitchCon, explaining that being there could potentially endanger others. He believes his attendance might put people at risk.

TwitchCon is happening from October 17-19 in San Diego, California. This yearly event lets streamers and their fans meet face-to-face, however, some of the most popular personalities won’t be attending this year.

Interestingly, both Valkyrae and QTCinderella expressed they were “afraid” to go to the event and will be staying home because of safety concerns. QT specifically mentioned an incident where a content creator was tragically stabbed to death in Japan.

So, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said they’re taking security really seriously and that they block banned users from events, but honestly, it hasn’t really changed how people are feeling. I’m still seeing a lot of worry about it, and it doesn’t seem to be reassuring anyone. It feels like they’re saying the right things, but people aren’t convinced, you know? I’m hoping they can address these concerns soon because it’s a big deal for those of us who enjoy attending Twitch events.

On September 29th, political streamer Hasan announced he would also be skipping TwitchCon 2025, hinting that the incident involving Charlie Kirk – specifically, an attempted attack – was the reason behind his choice.

After a fan expressed missing his earlier, more social content, the streamer explained that he worries his presence could jeopardize the entire situation.

There’s been a clear problem, unfortunately. First, all the recent political events. And second, those events have really limited my ability to go out and spend time with others in person,” he explained.

I was shocked to hear that Charlie Kirk, the right-wing YouTuber and political activist, was tragically killed on September 10th while giving a speech at Utah Valley University. It’s just awful news, and I’m still trying to process it. It’s incredibly sad that something like this could happen while he was simply speaking at a university.

Hasan says this means he’ll be skipping TwitchCon, though he insists it’s not due to concerns for his personal safety.

I’m choosing not to attend TwitchCon because I’m concerned for everyone’s safety. I don’t want to potentially make others a target if someone with harmful intentions decides to go there. I’m making my decision not to attend public for that specific reason. I don’t want to put them in the fking crosshairs if some psycho freak decides, ‘I’m gonna go there.’

Hasan has faced some criticism on Twitch. Earlier in 2024, he shared a video with another streamer, Nmp, focusing on the Houthi Movement. This led to significant negative reactions from viewers, as the group is officially labeled a Terrorist Organization by the US State Department.

The CEO of the site, Dan Clancy, was also urged by Democratic Representative Ritchie Torres to “stop promoting individuals who spread antisemitism,” with a specific focus on content created by Hasan.

At the same time, another popular Twitch streamer, Asmongold, has advised women against going to TwitchCon. He also criticized the platform’s statements about prioritizing safety and security, suggesting he doesn’t believe they are genuine. He questioned their commitment to protecting attendees, particularly in light of recent events.

He strongly stated that last year, nmpLOL and wake were sexually assaulted by another streamer, and Twitch took no legal action against the perpetrator. He continued, “If I were a woman, I would not attend TwitchCon.”
