Pokemon Card Shop Had Over $1 Million In Meth, Police Say

As a long-time enthusiast of the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), I find myself both shocked and saddened by the recent events unfolding in Hong Kong. On August 19th, a Pokemon Trading Card Game store in Hong Kong was stormed by authorities who claimed to have found approximately 16 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden within its staff-restricted section.

According to the South China Morning Post, a Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) store situated in Hung Hom’s residential district used to organize tournaments and trading trips for groups of kids and adolescents. These youngsters would gather to enjoy playing the popular TCG together. While no children or teenagers were implicated in drug purchases, this unexpectedly raised eyebrows at the Hong Kong Narcotics Bureau, as Inspector Liong Chun-Hin noted.

It’s reckless and shameful to keep so much illegal drugs in a place where young people and children often go, as this increases the likelihood of them accidentally finding these drugs. This is what Chun-Hin expressed to the local press.

Chun-Hin clarifies that the Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) store on the upper level was being used as a storage space for over a month before the authorities identified its whereabouts.

Last year in April, a worker at a printing company was accused by The Pokemon Company of stealing a large number of valuable cards from the Fusion Strike set. These cards were later returned and are believed to be the biggest return of stolen property ever reported in the history of the Pokemon trading card game.
