‘Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim’ Trailer: Middle-earth Gets Anime Prequel With War Elephants, Great Eagles and Brian Cox

As a devoted Tolkien enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in Middle-earth’s rich tapestry of stories, I must say that the release of “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” trailer feels like a homecoming. Having been captivated by Helm Hammerhand’s tale in the appendices of “The Fellowship of the Ring,” and having been enchanted by Kenji Kamiyama’s work in “Blade Runner: Black Lotus” and “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex,” I am eagerly awaiting this animated feature.

Get ready for more thrilling Middle-earth adventures! Warner Bros. has unveiled the trailer for their upcoming anime movie, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” scheduled for release on December 13.

Under Kenji Kamiyama’s direction, we delve into “The War of the Rohirrim,” a prequel to “The Fellowship of the Ring,” set 261 years prior to the epic tale. The story centers around Helm Hammerhand as our main character and is derived from a narrative by J.R.R. Tolkien, found in the appendices of “The Lord of the Rings.”

In the upcoming animated movie, Brian Cox takes on the role of King Rohan, a character he voices, while Miranda Otto reprises her role from Peter Jackson’s film series as Eowyn. The King finds himself in a battle to protect his kingdom against the Dunlendings, with this tale shedding light on the origins of Helm’s Deep and how it earned its name.

We’ve also brought on board Gaia Wise, Luke Pasqualino, Laurence Ubong Williams, and Shaune Dooley as part of our expanded cast.

The screenplay for this movie is written by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, based on a story by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. Warner Bros. Animation, New Line Cinema, and Sola Entertainment are the production studios, with distribution handled by Warner Bros. Joseph Chou from Sola Entertainment serves as the producer. Phillippa Boyens, who co-wrote the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, is an executive producer. Additionally, contributors to the original Lord of the Rings trilogy such as Richard Taylor, Alan Lee, and Tolkien illustrator John Howe are part of the creative team.

Kamiyama has gained recognition for his work as director on the television series “Blade Runner: Black Lotus” and “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.”

Tales set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth are still being brought to life on screen for both long-time fans and new viewers. At present, the second season of Amazon Prime Video’s show “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is being worked on, distinct from any animated films.
