As a seasoned connoisseur of classic cartoons and FPS games, I can confidently say that MOUSE: P.I. For Hire has piqued my interest like a well-placed bullet to the fourth wall. The seamless blend of noir atmosphere with rubber hose animation is akin to finding a time machine in a box of Cracker Jacks – unexpected, yet delightful.


1930s cartoon enthusiasts are about to be delighted with the game titled “FPS MOUSE: P.I. For Hire,” created by Fumi Games. This captivating game takes players on a journey to a city steeped in atmosphere, where crime and corruption reign, and true justice is scarce.

Despite its ominous appearance with grimy streets and a somber atmosphere, the game’s distinctive visual flair, drawing inspiration from the rubber hose animation popular in the early 1900s, infuses an irresistible whimsy that sets it apart.

Surprisingly, MOUSE: P.I. For Hire isn’t solely a First-Person Shooter (FPS). The creative minds at Fumi Games have intricately incorporated aspects of Metroidvania into the game, meaning players can expect a thrilling combination of classic shooting action alongside fresh, exploration-based features.

At Gamescom 2024, I had the privilege to chat with Lead Producer Maciej Krzemien about our game’s development. He shared their vision for creating an experience that feels both comfortably nostalgic and innovatively new. This translates into blending traditional FPS elements, such as a wide variety of weapons and power-ups, with elements that encourage exploration and revisiting areas, reminiscent of the Metroidvania genre.

Among the notable characteristics is the tail of character P.I. Pepper, serving dual purposes: it functions as a grapple, enabling the tail to latch onto swinging structures, and this feature empowers players to scale greater heights, venturing into locations that were previously out of reach.

In MOUSE: P.I. For Hire, the game levels have been strategically structured to keep gamers engaged and intrigued. Certain sections will follow a linear progression, leading you smoothly through a cohesive storyline, while others will branch off, providing various routes and concealed treasures. The creators are exploring diverse approaches to level design in an effort to prevent the game from feeling monotonous.

In the unveiling trailer for the game’s title, viewers got an early look at certain settings. For instance, The Marina, which used to be teeming with activity from trade and business, has deteriorated into a crime-ridden ghost of its past.

Despite all the exciting reveals, there’s still a lot we don’t know. Fumi Games is keeping tight-lipped about the game’s release date, though it’s expected sometime in 2025. Both Krzemien and CEO Mateusz Michalak have emphasized their commitment to perfecting the game before releasing any Steam demos or Early Access versions. It’s clear they want to deliver a polished experience that lives up to the hype they’ve created.
