Despite being an NFL enthusiast, I found the Madden series too complex in the past. Yet, surprisingly, Madden 25 caught my attention right from the very first successful pass.
My fascination for American football began during the 90s when Favre was leading his Packers team, but it was the St. Louis Rams of ’99/’00, featuring Faulk and Warner, that truly captivated me. They won Super Bowl XXXIV, sparking my lifelong interest. Reminiscing about this, playing Madden for the first time brought back memories of watching games on TV with my father.
Graphics & Sound
In Madden 25, the Superstar mode provides a vivid experience as it allows me to personalize my character and get an intimate look at other players. The lifelike player models and smooth animations give a feeling of authenticity that pulls you in. The stadiums are meticulously designed, mirroring the distinct vibe of every NFL location. It’s disappointing though, since the Raiders who picked me in Superstar mode have moved to Las Vegas, meaning I missed out on the Oakland era and the passionate fans from the Black Hole end zone.
In Superstar mode, chatting without voiceovers in the game felt odd. Could it be that EA faced financial constraints and couldn’t afford voice actors? The absence of voices felt strange because it was a missed chance to hear the unique sounds of NFL teams off-camera. However, the commentators are top-notch, providing enough diversity to keep things interesting and avoid monotony.

Atmosphere
One of Madden 25’s key aspects is its immersive environment. Each game mode presents a unique encounter, yet they all share a unifying element: the matches replicate the authentic NFL experience. The commentators offer insightful remarks, and the scenes and on-field actions amplify the thrill. The player collisions, especially quarterback takedowns, are remarkably realistic, enhancing the sense of impact.
Despite not being particularly fond of intricate offensive and defensive strategies in the NFL, I found it straightforward to pick and run plays, which made successful ones all the more gratifying – an extra boost of pride (especially as a quarterback or wide receiver). Designing plays for my team that ultimately lead to a touchdown felt even sweeter than scoring one myself, particularly in modes like Superstar and Franchise where there’s a wider array of strategies to master.

Controls
Mastering the controls in Madden 25 can be quite an undertaking, particularly when aiming for victory beyond the Superstar mode. As a novice player, I found it tough to memorize the distinct controls applicable to each player role. Although the game offers assistance by displaying controls during gameplay, the learning slope is steep. For me, toggling between quarterback and running back commands was manageable compared to managing defense.
In simpler terms, the defensive strategies can sometimes be intricate, which makes it challenging to respond swiftly to the opponent’s moves. Although most players might be experienced with Madden, I believe there could be additional methods for mastering controls, particularly when it comes to defense. Defending in this game wasn’t fun, as I often felt powerless because I was unsure which button to press.

Game Modes
Madden 25 provides multiple gameplay options to keep gamers hooked. A favorite among them is Ultimate Team, where you can construct your ideal squad using packs and challenges. However, I’m not a fan of this card-collecting mode because it’s riddled with microtransactions. Nevertheless, I get why people enjoy it, as it enables users to assemble a team featuring star players from various generations.
Superstar mode lets you create a player and guide them through their career, while Franchise mode allows you to manage an entire team. If you enjoy competitive play, Online Head-to-Head mode offers the chance to face off against other players. With so many game modes, there’s something for everyone in Madden 25. My favorite mode was Superstar, as I wanted to become the next Brett Favre, my favorite QB of all time (I’m not saying he’s the best!).

Verdict – Excellent football simulation
Madden 25 offers a robust football gaming experience suitable for players at various skill levels. For those who prefer a relaxed gameplay, the Arcade settings provide ease of access, while hardcore Madden enthusiasts can find numerous challenges to maintain their interest. While the controls might require some learning, the overall gaming experience is entertaining and rewarding. If you’re a football aficionado, Madden 25 will be your loyal partner during the NFL season.
