Ryan Reynolds Calls for ‘More Blade Please’ After Wesley Snipes’ Return: ‘The Most Intense Thing I’ve Heard in a Theater’ Was ‘People Screaming’ for Him

As a fervent admirer of the cinematic arts and a connoisseur of superhero movies, I must say that Ryan Reynolds‘ words resonate deeply with me. The return of Wesley Snipes as Blade is nothing short of a triumphant comeback, a testament to the enduring power of legacy and the unbridled joy that such a moment can bring to audiences.

Ryan Reynolds is urging for a larger presence of Blade on the big screen, following Wesley Snipes’ highly anticipated comeback as the Marvel superhero in “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Reynolds posted behind-the-scenes snaps from the set where he worked with Snipes. Snipes initially played Blade in the 1998 film of the same name, and later reprised the role in “Blade II” (2002) and “Blade: Trinity” (2004), where Reynolds also starred.

“When Wesley Snipes appears on screen, it’s the most electrifying moment I’ve witnessed in a theater,” Reynolds wrote in his caption. “The crowd’s unrestrained cheers and adoration is a testament to an enduring legacy. Here’s hoping for more Blade!” (or, “Here’s to more Blade!”)

In “Deadpool & Wolverine,” one of many characters from Fox’s Marvel film series that emerged, was Blade, played by Wesley Snipes once more. Fan favorites Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Chris Evans as Johnny Storm also made appearances, exciting comic book movie enthusiasts everywhere. After the film’s successful opening weekend, Snipes spoke to Entertainment Weekly about his experience reprising the role of Blade after a 20-year hiatus.

For many years, we’ve had some fascinating discussions, some deeply significant and others more casual, Snipes explained to EW about resurrecting Blade for a fourth time. “I had almost come to terms with letting go of these conversations,” he said, “but that’s alright. I did three of them, and I think they turned out quite well. Not too shabby… So now we shift our focus to new endeavors, and even greater opportunities.”

During the production of “Deadpool & Wolverine”, Reynolds reached out to Snipes via text, expressing his desire for him to potentially return as Blade. The message Reynolds sent was simply: “Let’s chat.”

“Snipes expressed surprise at his comeback as Blade after 20 years. He didn’t believe it could happen, doubting if the project would work out. He was unsure about Marvel and Disney’s interest, given that Mahershala Ali was already cast for the next version. It seemed illogical to him, but when an unexpected call came from Ryan Reynolds after two decades, he decided to answer it. Reynolds shared the idea with him, and when they agreed, the project got the green light. If Snipes was on board, so were they. And here we are.”

For approximately two years, Marvel has been working on a fresh take for “Blade” starring Ali, but the project has encountered several obstacles in its development. On June 12th, it was revealed that director Yann Demange had left the movie and that Eric Pearson, who worked on “The Fantastic Four” and “Black Widow,” had been hired as a new screenwriter.

“The movie featuring Deadpool and Wolverine has earned over $1.15 billion at global box offices, making it the biggest money-maker in the R-rated category ever. As of now, it ranks second among the highest-grossing films of 2024, trailing only ‘Inside Out 2.'”
