VP Candidate Tim Walz, Noted Dreamcast Lover, Was Apparently A Crazy Taxi Guy

As a gaming enthusiast with a knack for politics, I find it absolutely fascinating to learn about our political leaders’ hidden passions and pastimes. Tim Walz, a man of the people and a Dreamcast fan, is an unexpected yet delightful addition to this growing list.

As a seasoned political observer with years of experience under my belt, I find myself intrigued by the latest developments surrounding Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and his potential candidacy for Vice President. While the formal acceptance of the Democratic party nomination at this week’s convention is certainly a significant milestone, what piques my curiosity is the revelation of Governor Walz’s classic gaming habits.

After being chosen as Kamala Harris’ running-mate, an article in The New York Times unveiled Walz as a fan of the Dreamcast console. Former high school football players remembered him sharing amusing anecdotes, such as when his wife confiscated his Dreamcast due to excessive gaming. This led to curiosity about which game had captivated him so intensely.

According to IGN, they managed to locate several successive owners of Walz’s Dreamcast console, eventually finding it with a man named Tom Johnson. During his time as an intern for Walz’s political campaign, Johnson was present when Walz brought in a box filled with personal items he intended to donate, but instead decided to let the interns use. Hidden among these items was a Dreamcast console that was mostly neglected within the congressional office. Eventually, Johnson took the Dreamcast to college, and he remembers finding a copy of Crazy Taxi pre-installed on it when he received it.

According to Johnson, many Dreamcast owners often played Crazy Taxi, so it doesn’t definitively prove that Walz particularly loved this game. However, finding it on his console implies some level of fondness for the driving game. This could be the best clue we have on the subject, unless he decides to mention it during his DNC speech. Given his cheerful personality in other speeches, there’s a chance he might bring it up.
