As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say the outrage among NBA2K fans over James Harden‘s rating in NBA2K25 is nothing short of amusing but understandable. The game has always been notorious for its controversial player ratings, and it seems that Harden has become this year’s unfortunate victim.
Enthusiasts of the NBA2K gaming series are voicing strong opinions about James Harden’s evaluation in NBA2K25, as he was given an overall rating of 84 in the game. The Instagram account of The House of Highlights polled fans on their thoughts regarding Harden’s 84 score compared to seven other players ranked by NBA2K either just below or above the 14-time All-Star, and many voiced their dissatisfaction.

Among the seven players illustrated, Houston Rockets’ third-year guard Jalen Green shares the same total rating as James Harden. Bradley Beal of the Phoenix Suns and Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves both have an overall rating of 85, while Tyler Herro from the Miami Heat and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors are rated slightly lower at 83. In response to their ratings, former NBA player and host of Showtime’s “All The Smoke” podcast, Stephen Jackson, stated that if all these players have a rating above 80, James Harden should be considered well over a 90.
Last season, there was a noticeable decrease in Harden’s offensive performance. For thirteen straight seasons, he had been scoring over 20 points and dishing out ten assists on average. However, during the 2023-24 season, his statistics dropped to 16.6 points and 8.5 assists. Despite this decline, Harden’s rating in NBA2K24 is 89, which seems quite low compared to his skills at the age of 35, suggesting that the game might not accurately represent his performance.
James Harden and Paul George’s Clippers era comes to an end
Once again this season, James Harden, Paul George, and the Los Angeles Clippers were eliminated in the initial round of the NBA playoffs. This time, they were defeated by Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and the Dallas Mavericks with a score of 4-2. Last year had seen a similar early exit for the team, following their disheartening 4-1 loss to the Phoenix Suns in 2023.
Predictions suggested that the newly assembled Clippers’ star trio might make it to the Western Conference Final, with two-time champion Kawhi Leonard leading the way. However, due to persistent knee issues, he had to sit out 30 games in the 2022-23 season. But last year, he made a strong comeback and was selected as an All-Star for the first time since 2021.
He scored an average of 23.7 points, grabbed 6.1 rebounds, and made 1.6 steals each game. George managed to score 22.6 points, hitting 47.1% of his shots, a personal record of 41.3% from three-point range, and collected 5.2 rebounds, dished out 3.5 assists, and made 1.5 steals per game. Unfortunately, the Clippers’ trio didn’t manage to make it far in the playoffs that year as the Mavs prevented them from reaching the 2024 NBA Finals.
Following his public dissatisfaction regarding a long-term contract with Philadelphia’s president Daryl Morey, Harden was traded to the Clippers in October last year. In this transaction, Philadelphia shipped off Harden, P.J. Tucker, and Filip Petrusev to the Clippers in exchange for seasoned player Marcus Morris, Robert Covington, Nic Batum, KJ Martin, a 2028 unprotected first-round draft pick, and additional assets.
George and the 76ers will face Harden and the Clippers on November 6.
