Path of Exile 2 enters Early Access on November 15

As an experienced gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of games and characters. But when I laid my eyes on these Path of Exile characters, it was like a breath of fresh air.

Grinding Gear Games, the developers behind Path of Exile, revealed during their Gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live stream that players can start playing Path of Exile 2 in Early Access from November 15, 2024. The game is planned for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, but an official launch date hasn’t been set yet.

First introduced for launch in 2020, Path of Exile 2 serves as a follow-up to Path of Exile, preserving its expansive skill system and the dungeon-crawling ARPG combat that positions it alongside Blizzard’s Diablo franchise.

In the sequel to Path of Exile, you can expect a fresh, six-act storyline, spanning over 100 diverse environments, and boasting numerous monsters and challenging bosses to vanquish. You’ll have the opportunity to excel in twelve distinct character classes, with a choice of 36 Ascendancy Classes for added specialization. Additionally, the new game introduces a Skill Gem system, enabling you to incorporate potent active skills into your playstyle, as well as utilize Support Gems to alter how these Skill Gems function.

In the same vein as its forerunner, Path of Exile 2, is set to be a free-to-play title, with revenue generated through microtransactions. The developers at Grinding Gear Games haven’t disclosed the specific types of microtransactions that will be available in POE 2. However, based on its Steam page, purchases made will be transferable between both games. The original game currently offers visual customizations and account upgrades like expanded item storage and additional character slots.
