As a seasoned space adventurer with countless hours spent traversing the cosmos, I can’t help but feel my heart race at the prospect of Bethesda’s latest offering for Starfield – Shattered Space. After diving deep into the Settled Systems, the tantalizing mystery that is House Va’ruun has always been a beacon in the distance, and I couldn’t be more excited to finally set foot on their home planet this September 30th.
At Gamescom 2024, Bethesda unveiled another trailer for their upcoming title, Starfield, an intergalactic RPG. The trailer revealed not only the highly anticipated REV-8 land vehicle, which will be available for free, but also a concrete release date for the game’s first story DLC, Shattered Space – it’s set to launch on September 30, 2024.
Adventurers exploring in Shattered Space will journey to the mysterious, far-off planet of House Va’ruun, a religious sect generally shunned by Established Systems. So far, their background has been hinted at through hostile interactions, side quests, and salvageable information. Their followers are fanatically devoted to a being called the Great Serpent, and aim to eliminate those who don’t share their beliefs.
In a previous update on Starfield’s Steam page, it was mentioned that “A distress signal emanating from a deserted star station sets you on a course to Va’ruun’kai, where you’ll start to discover the mysteries surrounding the devotees of the Great Serpent.” A trailer launched in June (displayed above) offers an extensive preview of the exciting new space odyssey that awaits players in this captivating deep-space journey.
It’s yet unknown if the Shattered Space DLC will cost money, but we’ll keep you informed as soon as that information becomes available.
In addition to that, tonight we’re releasing a minor free upgrade featuring the REV-8 land vehicle. This will enable players to move faster across planets, not just by foot or ship travel. As alluded to in the Gamescom announcement, this vehicle can also be taken to Va’ruun’kai, assisting you in combating newly encountered extraterrestrial foes.
Interestingly enough, the release of this DLC arrives about a year following the game’s premiere in September 2023, making it Starfield’s largest content expansion thus far. This groundbreaking RPG is one of Bethesda’s most daring projects, and despite mixed opinions on the game due to its relatively slow update pace, many fans still cherish it for pushing boundaries within the sci-fi RPG genre.
