As a long-time fan of the Mafia series, the announcement of Mafia: The Old Country at gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live felt like Christmas came early! Growing up, the Mafia games were my go-to for immersive storytelling and gripping gameplay, and this new installment seems to be a perfect blend of both.
For quite some time now, there have been whispers about a fresh addition to the Mafia series, and more recently, chatter online suggested that Take-Two Interactive was gearing up to unveil this game. It appears that the company felt the moment was ripe, as Mafia: The Old Country was formally announced at the gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live event. Following the moderate success of their third installment, Studio Hangar 13 opted to retrace their steps back to the series’ origins. In The Old Country, players will be transported to Sicily at the dawn of the 20th century, where they will witness the genesis of organized crime. The developers promise a game brimming with action, authenticity, and an engaging narrative.
In “Mafia: The Old Country”, we revisit the original elements that made earlier versions beloved by fans, offering a deep and sequential storyline, steeped in the ambiance of classic gangster films, all set in an exciting new environment. This results in a compelling and unified experience with engaging gameplay that’s hard to put down.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t hide my excitement! Ever since the initial release of Mafia back then, this iconic series has moved an impressive 34 million units off the shelves.
