Squid Game Unleashed Lets You Play In A Cartoonish Version Of The Show's Capitalist Hellscape

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of adaptations from various media into video games. Some have been brilliant, while others have left me scratching my head in disbelief. Squid Game Unleashed falls squarely into the latter category.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel Netflix is missing the mark with their approach to Squid Game, my beloved series. Instead of delving deeper into the grim reality of living in a heartless capitalist utopia, they’ve turned it into a light-hearted affair about navigating obstacle courses.

The trailer demonstrates the gameplay of the multiplayer version, where players engage in scenarios similar to those found in Squid Games, such as a high-stakes game of red light, green light featuring a large doll statue that eliminates players who move prematurely – this time with deadly saw blades and other gaming-inspired enhancements. You can view the trailer here below.

Based on information from the Squid Game Unleashed website, this title appears to be a multiplayer battle royale game where you can customize your character to face familiar challenges from both the original Squid Game and Squid Game: The Challenge, a Netflix game show that mimicked the series’ dark themes while adding a touch of humor. Additionally, it seems there will be new games based on classic childhood activities as well.

The overall aesthetic leans towards a playful, almost comical art design, setting it apart from the intensely grim and somber original series. The preview hints at a gameplay style reminiscent of Fall Guys, yet there’s a dark undertone due to characters being eliminated for their missteps. This seemingly paradoxical blend of humor and violence could make Squid Game Unleashed an intriguing twist on the concept.

The trailer announces that the popular series, Squid Game Unleashed, is planned for release on both Android and iOS devices “soon.” To play it, you’ll just need the Netflix app.
