The First NBA 2K25 Player Ratings Are Here

As a die-hard NBA 2K fan who has been following this series since its humble beginnings, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and nostalgia with each new release announcement. This year, it’s no different as we gear up for NBA 2K25, set to drop on September 6.

Prior to the launch of NBA 2K25 on September 6, the initial player rankings have been disclosed, commencing with the bottom 30 among the top 100 rated players. Additionally, this year’s highest-ranked rookies and some of the top-ranked WNBA athletes have also been unveiled by 2K.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t wait to get my hands on NBA 2K when it drops, knowing that A’ja Wilson, the cover star of this year’s WNBA edition, will be starting off with an unprecedented 99 Overall Rating (OVR). This makes her the highest-rated WNBA player in NBA 2K history, a feat usually reserved for the legends of the men’s league. In fact, NBA 2K seldom dishes out 99 ratings and occasionally launches without any players rated at that level, as was the case last year. So, prepare to be amazed by A’ja Wilson’s gameplay when NBA 2K drops!

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the WNBA’s standout rookie class has been unveiled with some remarkable Overall Ratings (OVRs). Star players like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have truly shone, both achieving an astonishing 90 OVR, a record-breaking feat in NBA 2K history! The rest of the top five includes Kamilla Cardoso, Rickea Jackson, and Cameron Brink, each receiving an impressive 80 OVR.

2K Sports has unveiled the initial list of players in the men’s league, placing those ranked between 100th and 71st at the game’s release. Notably, the overall ratings (OVR) for these top-100 players begin at 80. Over the course of the week, 2K will progressively disclose more of the highest-ranked players, culminating in the unveiling of the player who will hold the coveted number-one spot for NBA 2K24’s launch. Last year, it was Denver Nuggets’ center Nikola Jokić who claimed the top position with a 98 OVR. In simpler terms, they have released the rankings of basketball players between 100th and 71st in the game, starting with an overall rating of 80 for the top 100 players. Over the week, they will reveal more top-ranked players, leading up to announcing this year’s number one player for NBA 2K24, who was Nikola Jokić with a 98 OVR last year.

As a gamer, I was surprised to find that none of this year’s newcomers managed to crack the top 100 rankings. However, the excitement didn’t fade away as 2K unveiled the top-rated 58 rookie males, with Zaccharie Risacher earning an impressive overall rating of 75 OVR, making him the highest-ranked newcomer this year.

As a dedicated NBA 2K gamer, I can’t help but feel the thrill when rating reveals roll around during the game’s launch season. However, it’s essential to remember that these initial Overall Ratings (OVRs) only represent the players’ opening stats for the game. These numbers may fluctuate throughout the NBA 2K season as player performance impacts their ratings.

On September 6, NBA 2K25 will become available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, personal computers, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. For comprehensive information about the different versions of the game and preorder incentives, consult our NBA 2K25 preorder guide.
