Original Resident Evil 2 Is Coming To GOG Soon

As a long-time fan of the Resident Evil series, I can hardly contain my excitement! The news that Resident Evil 2 is finally coming to GOG on August 27 has me eagerly counting down the days. I remember playing the original back in 1998 and being utterly terrified yet completely captivated by its horror. To have the chance to experience it all over again, with modern optimizations and bug fixes, is truly a dream come true.

Good news! The classic Resident Evil 2 will be available on GOG starting August 27. The developers have confirmed this release date, and it will join the original Resident Evil game in the Resident Evil bundle. This updated version retains all the original content while optimizing it for contemporary devices, fixing bugs and updating compatibility. Essentially, this is the first modern adaptation of the original Resident Evil 2, enabling players to relive the horror as they would have back in 1998.

As a gamer, I’m super stoked about the upcoming release of Resident Evil 2 on GOG! Just like the original game, this version is going to be fully modernized and optimized for today’s platforms. This means it’ll run like a dream without any hiccups. Plus, it’s gonna support Windows 10 and 11, so I can play it on my new PC. Even better, I can use all the latest controllers like Sony DualSense, DualShock4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Switch, and more to get the best gaming experience possible!

In an effort to improve the gaming experience for fans, developers have worked hard to address certain glitches that previously disrupted gameplay enjoyment in the original version. This update includes restoring missing text, making a non-functioning diary operational, and eliminating repetitive annoying sounds. Although these changes may appear trivial, they will significantly improve the overall gaming experience, especially when combined with other enhancements made by GOG.

With Resident Evil 2 now available in the GOG Bundle alongside its predecessor, fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the final promised game, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Currently, there’s no official word on when this updated version of Resident Evil 3 will be launched. However, it seems reasonable to expect an announcement regarding its release after RE2 becomes available for purchase in the store.

Beyond the forthcoming launch of Resident Evil 2 and 3 on GOG, there’s a strong possibility that additional Capcom classics may also appear on GOG. In fact, GOG’s senior business development manager, Marcin Paczyński, hinted at this when he mentioned that during the process of releasing Resident Evil, the teams collaborated closely with Capcom, and their partnership has blossomed as a result. This collaboration could potentially pave the way for popular Capcom titles such as Marvel vs Capcom and Street Fighter to become available on the GOG storefront.

Many gamers have eagerly anticipated the arrival of Resident Evil 2 on GOG. This means fresh players will get to immerse themselves in the terror for the first time, while veterans can revisit their past memories. Fortunately, they won’t have to wait much longer as the game is set to release within a week.
