Legendary Is Developing A Pacific Rim Prequel Series

As a seasoned gamer with memories of countless hours spent battling Kaiju and piloting Jaegers in the Pacific Rim universe, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the news of a prequel series in the works! Eric Heisserer, the man behind Arrival and Bird Box, is no stranger to crafting thought-provoking stories that keep audiences on the edge of their seats. His involvement alone makes this project worth keeping an eye on.

2013 saw Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham collaborate on the screenplay for Pacific Rim, a movie featuring colossal monsters battling colossal robots controlled by two-person crews. The film led to a sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising, in 2018. Since then, apart from the Netflix anime series, Pacific Rim: The Black, the franchise has mostly remained quiet. Now, Legendary Entertainment is planning to create a Pacific Rim prequel TV series, with a creative team already on board.

Through Development, Eric Heisserer and Carmen Lewis are working on a prequel series for Pacific Rim, expected to delve deeper into the origin story presented in the initial film. As portrayed in the movie, colossal alien creatures known as Kaiju emerged from our world through a portal at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean from another dimension. To counter these threats, humans constructed Jaegers – towering robots that necessitate two or more pilots who can synchronize their minds.

In a statement, Jason Clodfelter, renowned President of Legendary TV, expressed that Eric is a versatile and productive innovator whose accomplishments in both critical and commercial arenas are self-explanatory. He continued by saying that they are delighted to initiate their collaboration with Eric, Chronology, and Carmen, as they unveil a fresh installment in the highly successful Pacific Rim series. Clodfelter is confident that this team’s vision will lead to an exciting extension of Legendary’s cherished franchise.

Previously, David Heisserer has worked on films such as Arrival, Bird Box, Lights Out, Hours, Bloodshot, and the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Additionally, he created the Netflix adaptation of Shadow and Bone.

At the moment, there’s no television network or streaming platform that’s committed to producing the Pacific Rim prequel series.
