A Poltergeist TV Series Is In The Works

As a fan of horror classics who grew up watching VHS tapes of Poltergeist under the covers with a flashlight, I can hardly contain my excitement over the news that Amazon MGM Studios is bringing back the franchise for a new TV series! With showrunners Kalinda Vazquez and Robbie Thompson at the helm, it’s safe to say we’re in good hands. Vazquez’s impressive resume spanning everything from Nikita to Star Trek: Discovery shows that she knows how to keep viewers on the edge of their seats, while Thompson’s experience with Supernatural and The Winchesters proves he has a knack for creating compelling supernatural stories.

1996 marked the debut of a television series titled “Poltergeist: The Legacy,” which had only a tenuous link to the original films. This show ran for four seasons until 1999, but now, there’s a new adaptation of Poltergeist as a TV series being developed by Amazon MGM Studios.

As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share that the Poltergeist franchise has brought on two masterminds behind the screen – Kalinda Vazquez and Robbie Thompson. Kalinda, with her diverse portfolio, has worked on a range of shows like Nikita, Prison Break, Fear the Walking Dead, Once Upon a Time, Star Trek: Discovery, and many more. On the other hand, Robbie’s expertise primarily lies in the genre series Supernatural, where he served as co-executive producer for numerous seasons. He also created and led The Winchesters, the prequel series to this iconic show.

At present, no specifics about the plot of the Poltergeist TV series have been disclosed, but it’s known that it is taking its cues from the 1982 film, with the house that has just been put up for sale serving as a point of reference. There were two subsequent Poltergeist movies released in cinemas, and a 2015 remake that did not receive favorable reviews.

In a different phrasing, Tobe Hooper was the director of the movie “Poltergeist,” which narrated the tale of the Freeling family who were tormented by progressively malicious spirits. The idea for this film originated from Steven Spielberg and he collaborated on the script’s writing as well. Currently, the new Poltergeist series is being produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios.
