Millie Bobby Brown to Adapt Her Novel ‘Nineteen Steps’ Into Netflix Film

As a dedicated fan of Millie Bobby Brown, I am absolutely thrilled to see her taking her creative journey to new heights with the adaptation of her debut novel, “Nineteen Steps,” into a feature film at Netflix. The fact that this project is so close to her heart, being inspired by her own grandmother’s life experiences during World War II, makes it even more intriguing and promising.

Actress Millie Bobby Brown, known for her role in “Stranger Things”, intends to adapt her first book, titled “Nineteen Things”, into a movie on Netflix.

As a devoted cinephile, I’ve got a special bond with the streaming titan, as it’s where my career took off with the widely acclaimed television series that put me on the map. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with Netflix on the Sherlock Holmes spinoff films “Enola Holmes” and the enchanting adventure “Damsel.” Now, through my production company PCMA Productions, I’m set to produce the intriguing project titled “Nineteen Things”. What’s more, there are whispers that I might be stepping into the spotlight again for the film’s adaptation – but let’s wait for the official word from Deadline, who first reported this exciting news.

Netflix declined to comment.

Released in September 2023, the novel “Nineteen Steps” is a World War II-era tale inspired by the author’s grandmother’s experiences. The narrative centers around 18-year-old Nellie Morris, a resident of Bethnal Green in east London, who finds herself smitten with an American airman named Ray. However, her life takes a dramatic turn following the Bethnal Green Tube disaster, which tragically claimed the lives of 173 civilians seeking refuge during an air raid.

Screenwriter Anthony McCarten, known for “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Darkest Hour,” is transforming a script for an upcoming film. Jonathan Eirich from Rideback will take on the role as producer, while Nick Reynolds will serve as executive producer. Dan Lin, the newly appointed head of Netflix’s film division, founded the production company Rideback, which has previously supported projects like “It,” “The LEGO Movie,” and “Aladdin.”

Twenty-year-old Millie Bobby Brown has earned two Emmy nominations for her role as Eleven in “Stranger Things,” a series set to end with its fifth and last season in 2025. She’s also featured in the films “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” from 2019 and its follow-up “Godzilla vs. Kong” from 2021. Coming up next, she’ll be part of an ensemble cast for “The Electric State,” a sci-fi adventure movie directed by the Russo brothers (known for “Avengers: Endgame”) alongside Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, and Jenny Slate.
