As a seasoned gamer who has traversed countless virtual realms, I can say with confidence that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was a refreshing addition to my cinematic universe journey. The film’s success and the promise of a sequel have left me eagerly anticipating more adventures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) starring Simu Liu.
In 2021, following the pandemic, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings emerged as a significant triumph for Marvel Studios. The movie catapulted Simu Liu into stardom and presented numerous possibilities for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). A follow-up was confirmed soon after its premiere, but since then, updates about Shang-Chi 2 have been scant. Despite this quiet period, Liu assures fans that the sequel is indeed in progress, although it didn’t feature in Marvel’s Comic-Con lineup.
During his interview with Comic Book, Liu expressed that while much of it is beyond his level of authority, he’s confident that the project is underway. He’s thrilled to contribute to it and anticipates it will be fantastic. Unfortunately, he can’t reveal any more details at this time.
In the finale of the initial film, Shang-Chi encountered Wong and some of the Avengers, hinting at his expanded part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the acquisition of the Ten Rings from his deceased father, the Mandarin. Whether Shang-Chi will appear again in future Avengers films is yet to be revealed. Initially assigned to direct Avengers 5, Shang-Chi’s director, Destin Daniel Cretton, eventually parted ways with the project before it was revised to focus on Doctor Doom. Subsequently, the Russo brothers have taken over the direction of the next two Avengers movies.
Destin Cretton is believed to still be connected to directing Shang-Chi 2. This sequel is expected to star Awkwafina as Katy, and Meng’er Zhang as Shang-Chi’s sister, Xu Xialing. However, at the moment, we can only guess when the movie might be released. It’s not yet scheduled for Marvel’s Phase 6.
