True Colours Acquires ‘Familia’ Ahead of Venice World Premiere, Trailer Debuts (EXCLUSIVE)

As an ardent cinephile who has traversed the labyrinthine world of cinema, I must say that “Familia” promises to be a riveting addition to the annals of cinematic masterpieces. The film’s dark melodrama, infused with psychological thriller and social commentary elements, echoes the complexities of human existence in a profound manner.

International distribution rights for “Familia,” a movie directed by Francesco Costabile, have been acquired by True Colours. This film will make its first appearance at the Venice Film Festival in the Horizons section and we’re excited to share that EbMaster has released the film’s trailer!

“Family” is a gripping melodrama that blends aspects of psychological thriller with social critique. The movie chronicles the tumultuous odyssey of Luigi, a tormented individual wrestling with a poisonous family history and his involvement in radical beliefs. Inspired by Luigi Celeste’s autobiographical work “It Won’t Be Like This Forever,” the narrative explores the devastating cycles of violence and the pursuit of atonement.

The lineup features Francesco Gheghi, Barbara Ronchi (from “Kidnapped” directed by Marco Bellochio), and Francesco Di Leva (“Nostalgia” from Mario Martone’s work). The cinematography is handled by Giuseppe Maio and the music is composed by Valerio Vigliar.

“Familia” is a creation of Attilio de Razza and Nicola Picone, hailing from Tramp Limited based in Rome. The joint production partners are Nicola Giuliano from Rome’s Indigo Film and Pierpaolo Verga from Naples’ O’Groove. This project is also backed by Medusa Film.”

Costabile, celebrated for his critically praised first film “Una femmina,” which was premiered at the Berlinale Panorama, “is now delving deeper into the realm of profound, character-focused stories that question societal conventions and expose institutional flaws,” as stated in a press release.

On October 2, the movie titled “Familia” is scheduled to premiere in Italian cinemas. In Italy, this film will be distributed by Medusa Film.

Among the other productions on True Colours’ lineup is “Fortunata,” directed by Sergio Castellitto. This movie premiered in Un Certain Regard at Cannes, with Jasmine Trinca earning best actress accolades. The plot revolves around a 30-year-old woman who singlehandedly raises her daughter, residing in a disadvantaged suburb of Rome, while harboring dreams of a more prosperous existence.
