As a seasoned movie buff with a keen eye for political involvement, I find this lineup for the 2024 Democratic National Convention absolutely captivating! It’s like a dream reunion of some of my favorite characters from the small screen and the political arena.
Actresses Kerry Washington and Mindy Kaling, political commentator Ana Navarro, and actor Tony Goldwyn are set to serve as hosts for the 2024 Democratic National Convention, taking place from August 19th through August 22nd.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is set to welcome several popular celebrities, including a “Scandal” cast reunion featuring Washington and Goldwyn. Each celebrity will take turns as the event’s emcee for one of the four nights of the convention, starting the night with opening remarks and occasionally steering the event throughout. Goldwyn starts off the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Monday. Next up is Navarro on Tuesday, followed by Kaling on Wednesday, and Washington takes the stage on the final night. On Thursday evening, Vice President Kamala Harris will formally accept the Democratic Presidential Nomination.
Washington has been an active participant in politics for a long time and boasts a rich history with the Democratic National Committee (DNC). She made her debut at the DNC in 2012, when she advocated for the re-election of former President Barack Obama. In 2020, she took to the stage on the third night of the DNC, as President Joe Biden campaigned against then-current President Donald Trump. Additionally, she is the founder of the political activism organization known as Influence Change, which collaborates with celebrities to encourage civic engagement and activism.
In 2019, Kamala Harris made an appearance on Senator Harris’ YouTube channel. During this appearance, they cooked masala dosa together and discussed their shared Indian heritage. This video was later re-shared by former President Trump on his Truth Social platform, sparking debate over Senator Harris’ racial identity.
Despite being a Republican, Navarro switched parties and started voting Democrat since Donald Trump entered the political arena. Her first vote for the Democratic party was cast in 2016, during the election between Trump and Hillary Clinton.
Similar to his “Scandal” counterpart, Goldwyn is actively involved in politics. Back in 2016, he endorsed Hillary Clinton’s campaign and attended events advocating for reproductive rights as well as a rally supporting President Joe Biden prior to him leaving the presidential race.
