Robert Pattinson & Zendaya’s New R-Rated Movie Debuts To Stellar Rotten Tomatoes Score

The Drama just keeps getting juicier.

Both Robert Pattinson and Zendaya are poised for a huge 2026, starring in several major films—including three projects together. Experts predict that their films, Dune: Part Three and The Odyssey, will be among the year’s biggest box office successes when considering all theatrical releases.

Zendaya is set to appear in the upcoming Marvel and Sony film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is expected to be a major box office success, potentially earning over $1 billion. But before that, audiences will see her first project with Robert Pattinson: The Drama. This A24 romance, already receiving rave reviews, is rated R and features a surprising plot twist before its release in theaters.

I just got a look at the early numbers for The Drama, and it’s looking good! As of today, it’s sitting at an 84% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 38 reviews. This R-rated romance hits theaters this Friday, April 3rd, and so far, critics are really responding to the pairing of Pattinson and Zendaya – 32 positive reviews versus only 6 negative ones. It seems like this could be a real winner!

In a review for ScreenRant, Alex Harrison gave the A24 film a score of 9 out of 10, calling it thrilling, funny, and offering more than just a surprising twist. Harrison praised the lead actors, Pattinson and Zendaya, for their ability to seamlessly transition between playing glamorous romantic leads, deeply emotional characters, and comedic roles. He also noted that the film’s casting was spot-on.

Several other reviewers also praised the film. G. Allen Johnson of the San Francisco Chronicle highlighted Zendaya’s performance, calling the movie hers. Emma Stefansky from Empire Magazine commended director Kristoffer Borgli for strategically handling the film’s biggest reveal, and Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian felt the movie lived up to its dramatic title.

Critics haven’t been kind to The Drama. Robert Daniels of RogerEbert.com says the film doesn’t really understand its characters. Richard Lawson at The Hollywood Reporter calls it a beautifully made but ultimately disappointing movie with a weak plot, while Nick Schager from The Daily Beast describes it as a humorless and endless bad joke.

The movie centers on Emma Harwood, played by Zendaya, and Charlie Thompson, played by Robert Pattinson, whose relationship is tested when a shocking secret comes to light right before their wedding. The R-rated film follows them as they try to navigate the aftermath and question how well they really knew each other. Expect the film’s Rotten Tomatoes score to change over the next few days.
