Josh Brolin’s 2025 Flop Sci-Fi Movie Is Heading To Prime Video

Keep an eye out for a new sci-fi thriller coming to Amazon Prime Video in 2025, starring Josh Brolin. It’s the second film based on a well-known Stephen King novel, and while critics generally liked it, it didn’t perform well at the box office.

The Running Man begins streaming on Prime Video in April

I’m really excited – it looks like The Running Man is finally coming to Amazon Prime Video on April 17, 2026! For those who don’t know, it’s based on the Stephen King novel – actually, he wrote it under the name Richard Bachman back in 1982. This isn’t the first time it’s been adapted for the screen, though; there was a movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger back in 1987, but I’m eager to see this new take.

In a future where the United States is controlled by a powerful, dictatorial television network known as the Network, the story centers on Ben Richards, an ordinary man desperate to earn money for his daughter’s medical care.

Driven to the edge, he enters a dangerous game show called The Running Man. For 30 days, he’s hunted by both skilled assassins and ordinary citizens, and must fight to survive. The last person remaining wins a massive $1 billion prize.

Edgar Wright directed the film, having co-written the script with Michael Bacall. According to IndieWire, Wright had wanted to adapt the novel for years, but it took time to get the project made. This new version, coming in 2025, is said to be much closer to the original book than the 1987 film. Wright also worked again with composer Steven Price on the movie’s music.

I’m really excited about the cast they’ve assembled for this film! We’ve got Josh Brolin playing Dan, and Glen Powell as Ben. Colman Domingo is taking on the role of Bobby, and Lee Pace is Evan. It’s great to see Michael Cera as Elton, alongside Emilia Jones as Amelia, and the always fantastic William H. Macy as Molie – it’s a seriously talented group!

The movie came out on November 14, 2025, and received generally positive, though mixed, reviews from critics. As of now, it has a 61% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on critic reviews, and a 77% audience score. However, despite the positive feedback, the film only earned about $69 million worldwide in theaters, while it cost approximately $110 million to make.
