A popular actor known for playing Spider-Man has confirmed he’ll be back for the next animated film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The Spider-Verse movies are considered by many to be among the best comic book films ever made, so fans are eagerly awaiting Beyond the Spider-Verse. Though the film has faced several delays, recent news has given fans hope, and they’ll be thrilled to learn which familiar faces are returning for the third installment.
At the South by Southwest (SXSW) film festival premiere of The Sun Never Sets, Jake Johnson – known for voicing Peter B. Parker in Spider-Verse – told TopMob he will be part of the upcoming Beyond the Spider-Verse, scheduled for release on June 18, 2027.
Johnson was questioned about his previous statements from 2024 concerning Beyond the Spider-Verse. He had said at the time that he hadn’t recorded any dialogue for the film. He updated fans in 2026, confirming he has now started recording lines and that the footage he’s seen of Beyond the Spider-Verse is “excellent.”
TopMob asked if the person had recorded any lines for ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ yet, noting their last update on the project was in 2024 and at that time, no lines had been recorded.
Jake Johnson: “That has changed. Yes, I’ve started recording. And it’s excellent.”
TopMob questioned Johnson about how his character will evolve in the next film, compared to Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse. Because the movie is still being made and details are closely guarded (except for some recent plot reveals), he couldn’t share much. However, he did offer a few key insights.
The actor hinted that Beyond the Spider-Verse will pay tribute to Peter B. Parker in a particularly compelling way, which he says is personally satisfying.
Johnson shared that he’s a big fan of Peter B. Parker and that the directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, are treating the character with a lot of care and consideration.
TopMob asked what makes Peter B. Parker’s part in the new movie different from his roles in the previous two films.
It’s great to see them celebrating him in such a fantastic way – it really makes me happy. I’ve always loved his character, and I’m confident Phil and Chris are handling it well, showing him a lot of respect. It’s just really cool to witness.
Shameik Moore was set to return as Miles Morales in Beyond the Spider-Verse, but it wasn’t entirely certain if Jake Johnson would reprise his role as Peter B. Parker.
Okay, so it’s looking like this character is going to be huge in the third and final Spider-Verse movie, and honestly, that makes total sense. He’s been such a key mentor to Miles in the first two films, it’d be weird if they didn’t give him a big send-off!
What Will Peter B. Parker’s Role in Beyond the Spider-Verse Look Like?

Jake Johnson has confirmed he’ll be back for Beyond the Spider-Verse and hinted at a significant role, though he’s keeping the details under wraps. That means fans are still left to speculate about what happens with his character, Peter B. Parker, in the new movie.
The Peter Parker portrayed by Shameik Moore has always carried a sense of sadness, and it doesn’t seem that will change in Beyond the Spider-Verse. While he’s consistently been a hero, he’s also endured significant struggles that have deeply impacted him.
Considering Miles Morales’ creator, Phil Lord, hinted that the next Spider-Verse movie will be a tribute to Shameik Moore, it’s possible Peter B. Parker will make the ultimate sacrifice. His story feels like it’s leading to a heroic end, where he gives his life to save someone he cares about, completing his character’s journey.
He might sacrifice himself for several people, but it would be especially meaningful if it were for Miles. Miles has been a wonderful mentor and has had a truly positive impact on his life.
Peter B. also has a daughter, Mayday, and a sacrifice for her could be just as powerfully moving. This would be a fitting and emotional conclusion to his story in the film.
