The second season of X-Men ’97 boasts a large cast of both heroes and villains, many of whom also appeared in the Deadpool movies. Both the original X-Men: The Animated Series from the 90s and the new X-Men ’97 have showcased a wide variety of mutant characters who’ve also been featured in live-action films, like Wolverine, Cyclops, and Professor X. The Deadpool films added even more characters to this list, including Lady Deathstrike and Omega Red.
The second season of the popular animated series X-Men ’97 will continue the story with most of the main characters returning. After a time-bending event at the end of last season, the X-Men are now spread throughout history, and they’ll eventually face off against the powerful villain Apocalypse. Season 2 is slated to arrive later this year.
Every X-Men ’97 Season 2 Character Who Appeared in Deadpool Movies
Wolverine

I’m really invested in Wolverine’s story in X-Men ’97. He’s been a key member of the team since the beginning, so it’s tough to see him struggling at the start of Season 2. They’ve taken the adamantium out of his bones, which means he’s not as powerful as we’re used to seeing him, and he’s dealing with a lot of pain from that experience.
Hugh Jackman returned as Wolverine in a major role in the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, after previously only appearing briefly in scenes after the credits of other movies. This new Deadpool film is important because its story involving multiple universes allowed Wolverine to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), potentially leading to exciting team-ups with the Avengers in future films like Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.
Cyclops

In X-Men ’97 Season 2, Cyclops plays a central role in the time-travel plot. He and Jean Grey are sent 2000 years into the future, leaving the present-day X-Men without a leader. Fortunately, other team members are still around to keep things running while they’re gone.
A compelling aspect of Cyclops’ story in the second season is the presence of his future son, Nathan Summers (who later becomes Cable). This creates a unique opportunity for Cyclops and his partner to actually be parents to their child, something they haven’t been able to experience before.
Tye Sheridan played Cyclops and made a quick cameo appearance in Deadpool 2, along with other X-Men characters. He appears during the scene where Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, gives a tour of the X-Mansion.
Nightcrawler

I was completely floored by the ending of X-Men ’97 Season 1! Seeing Nightcrawler and the team – Magneto, Beast, Rogue, and Professor X – suddenly flung back in time to ancient Egypt, around 3000 BC, was incredible. But it’s terrifying too, because they immediately ran into En Sabah Nur, a powerful warrior who, as we know, becomes the formidable Apocalypse. They’re really in a dangerous spot!
Just like Cyclops, Nightcrawler (played by Kodi Smit-McPhee) made a quick cameo appearance in the X-Mansion scene in Deadpool 2.
Professor X

Charles Xavier’s story has taken some unexpected turns in X-Men ’97, and it’s about to get more complicated. He’s sent back in time with the mission of stopping Apocalypse from becoming a major danger. Even if he succeeds and returns to the present, Xavier and the X-Men will still face public distrust towards mutants, all while dealing with the ever-present threat of Apocalypse.
James McAvoy reprised his role as Professor X in a brief but enjoyable scene at the X-Mansion in Deadpool 2. Fans are curious if he’ll play Charles Xavier in future Marvel movies (you can find more details about that here).
Beast

At the start of X-Men ’97 Season 2, Beast finds himself in ancient Egypt with Magneto, Rogue, Nightcrawler, and Charles Xavier. Although he’s a skilled scientist, Beast struggles to find a way to return the group to the present due to the lack of modern technology and resources.
Nicholas Hoult’s Beast made a brief cameo appearance in Deadpool 2 as part of a humorous scene where Wade Wilson tours the X-Mansion.
Storm

After the X-Men’s battle with Bastion in the season finale of ’97, it’s unclear what happened to Storm, but most fans believe she survived. The bigger mystery is where she ended up, since the team was flung across different time periods. Some think she might still be in the present, while others believe she was sent to the distant future with Jean and Cyclops.
Interestingly, Alexandra Shipp previously played Storm in a humorous scene in Deadpool 2, appearing with Cyclops, Beast, and other X-Men at the X-Mansion.
Gambit

The first season of X-Men ’97 shocked viewers by killing off Gambit during its initial run on Disney+. He died a hero, sacrificing himself during a large-scale attack by Sentinels in Genosha, which deeply affected Rogue. But the season finale suggested Gambit might not be gone for good – Apocalypse could bring him back as one of his Horsemen, potentially turning him into a villain and setting up a future conflict with the X-Men.
One of the biggest surprises in Deadpool & Wolverine is Channing Tatum’s first appearance as Gambit, fighting alongside the Resistance against Cassandra Nova in the Void. Tatum will reprise his role as the X-Men member in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, alongside other mutant heroes.
Colossus

Colossus will be joining the team in Season 2 of X-Men ’97, and he’s expected to be a key player in the upcoming battle against Apocalypse, likely happening in the present. He might be brought in by Forge and Cable to protect Earth while the main X-Men team is dealing with time travel.
Colossus is a key character in the Deadpool movies, consistently helping Wade Wilson and often acting as his conscience.
Psylocke

I’m so excited about Psylocke joining the team in X-Men ’97 Season 2! We saw her in X-Men: Apocalypse, but that version ended up working with the bad guys. This animated Psylocke seems totally different – she’s a hero and looks like she’ll be fighting alongside Forge and Cable in the present day. It’s great to see her on the side of good this time around!
In Deadpool & Wolverine, Psylocke appeared as a character trapped in the Void, working with Cassandra Nova’s followers against the Resistance.
Sabertooth

In Season 1 of X-Men ’97, Sabretooth only appeared when Morph changed into him. However, the Season 2 trailer shown at New York Comic-Con revealed that Sabretooth will be a bigger part of the story, potentially connected to Wolverine’s struggle to regain his abilities after losing the adamantium in his skeleton.
In Deadpool & Wolverine, Tyler Mane briefly appears as Sabretooth, engaging in a quick but notable fight with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the Void.
Lady Deathstrike

Lady Deathstrike has a long and difficult relationship with Wolverine, stemming from the revelation that she holds him responsible for her father’s death. With her return planned for Season 2, she’s expected to be central to Wolverine’s journey as he deals with losing his adamantium, potentially helping or hindering his progress.
The movie Deadpool & Wolverine featured Lady Deathstrike as a character within the Void, where she fought as part of Cassandra Nova’s forces.
Omega Red

Omega Red will be a villain in Season 2 of X-Men ’97. He’s a very powerful and dangerous enemy of the X-Men, with incredible strength and fighting skills, and he can even drain the life force from those he battles.
Given that the first season ended with him battling Bastion’s Prime Sentinels, he could become a major enemy for Forge and Cable’s X-Men team now.
Omega Red made a cameo appearance in Deadpool 2 as one of the mutants imprisoned in the Icebox, a high-security facility.
