Nintendo's Creepy Game Is Taking A Neat Approach To Demos

As a seasoned detective with a heart full of nostalgia and a Nintendo Switch permanently gripped in my hands, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the imminent arrival of Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club. Having spent countless hours poring over pixelated crime scenes in the original games, I’ve grown attached to the world and its enigmatic villain.

Previously this summer, Nintendo unveiled an eerie sneak peek at Emio – The Smiling Man, only later to announce that it’s actually a much-anticipated sequel to the Famicom Detective Club games. This game is due out by the end of the month; however, players won’t have to wait until then for a taste of it as the demo for the first chapter will be available next week.

Nintendo has shared that they are planning to unveil several trial versions for the game Emio – The Smiling Man. This process will commence with Chapter 1 on August 19th. Additional chapters, Chapters 2 and 3, will be rolled out respectively on August 22nd and August 27th. In a thoughtful feature, the advancement made by players in each chapter will be transferable to the complete game once it becomes available.

To date, here’s what we can gather about Emio: he’s a character in the game who was once an urban legend suspected of committing multiple murders around two decades back. Interestingly, it seems that the depiction of Emio’s smiling face on his paper bag mask has been altered across promotional materials available on Nintendo’s official site for this title. In the upcoming game, players take on the role of a private investigator’s assistant, tasked with uncovering the facts about whether Emio is back to continue his killing spree or if someone else is hiding behind the mask. Is it the original Emio resuming his crimes? Or has a new person donned the mask?

On August 29, Nintendo exclusive Switch users can expect to uncover their solutions once they’ve played Emio – The Smiling Man, which will be available for them then.
