Super Mario Galaxy Movie star is pushing for Luigi’s Mansion spinoff next

Charlie Day, who plays Luigi, would love to star in his own movie someday. Right now, he’s hoping a film based on the ‘Luigi’s Mansion’ game will be made.

As a huge Mario fan, I was so excited to see The Super Mario Bros. Movie absolutely crush it last year – it made over a billion dollars, which is incredible! Now, I’m counting down the days until the sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, takes Mario and the gang on a whole new adventure to even more amazing worlds!

Although seeing another famous Nintendo character appear hints at a possible Super Smash Bros. movie, Luigi might instead get his own separate adventure – and it sounds like it could be a scary one.

Charlie Day, who voices Luigi, has repeatedly expressed his interest in a ‘Luigi’s Mansion’ movie, and he’s now even more enthusiastic about the idea.

Day told ScreenRant he’d love to work on a Luigi’s Mansion game, calling it a really enjoyable title.

It’s quite a shift in tone, moving from the fun, upbeat world of Mario and Yoshi to a spooky story set in a dark, old house, but Day is fully prepared to embrace it.

He added that while it shouldn’t be scary for children, adding a few surprising moments could make it more enjoyable.

It definitely feels like a story that could work well on the big screen, but I’m not the person to ask about making movies – and honestly, that’s probably a good thing. I haven’t the slightest idea how it would all come together.

Although it hasn’t been officially announced, rumors surfaced after the first movie’s success that a spin-off film focusing on Luigi was being developed. These reports appeared in early 2023, and at the time, Day was eager to promote the idea and generate public interest.

Rumors suggest this spin-off is already in development. It’s unclear where it would fit within the larger Nintendo movie universe, but it could be a fun story leading up to a big team-up, like a Super Smash Bros. movie.
