CBS Quietly Confirms NCIS Is Replacing Timothy McGee in Season 23

The recent 500th episode of NCIS delivered a surprising twist: the death of Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll). Now, the show needs a new leader, and many viewers believe Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) is the perfect choice. NCIS, which first aired in 2003 starring Mark Harmon as Gibbs, stunned its audience with this major plot development and Carroll’s departure.

Following the death of Director Vance, the NCIS team faces uncertainty, though the Major Crimes Response Team is able to return to work. In a surprising reveal, Vance informs the agency that NCIS will be closing its doors – news that Parker already knew. Ultimately, Vance’s actions during the Billy Fuentes case ensure NCIS survives, leaving the team to find a strong new leader.

McGee Needs To Become NCIS Director In Season 23

Although it’s sad for the show and its fans, there’s good news: Timothy McGee is ready to take over. He’s been a part of NCIS since the very beginning, in Season 1, and has consistently shown he’s capable of continuing the legacy.

As a long-time fan of the show, I’ve always been impressed with McGee’s growth. He started as a newbie and now he’s basically Parker and Vance’s right-hand man! While Parker could potentially take over Vance’s role one day, I think McGee is the stronger candidate. He’s just proven himself time and again in the field, and that hands-on experience, along with his specific skills, really sets him apart.

McGee is a highly experienced NCIS agent in Washington, known for his strong technical skills which make him a valuable investigator. Before joining NCIS and meeting Gibbs at the Norfolk office, he earned a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a master’s degree in computer forensics from MIT.

I was really surprised when Tim turned down the big promotion after Mark Harmon’s character left the show – he said it would take over his life, and he wanted to focus on his family. But it seems like he’s had a change of heart! Now, in the latest season, he’s actually going for the Deputy Director job at NCIS. It’s interesting to see him reconsider things.

Who Will Replace Timothy McGee in NCIS Season 23?

McGee would be a strong choice to replace Vance as leader. He’s proven his commitment to NCIS over more than twenty years and has the skills to lead the team. However, if McGee is promoted, someone new would need to fill his role in the bullpen.

Luckily, NCIS has several agents who could step up and fill McGee’s role. One possibility is a skilled technician from the basement, nicknamed the “Tech Troll,” who’s expressed interest in becoming a full agent. Curtis could be that person, taking on McGee’s position as both a charming newbie and a tech expert.

A stronger fit for Parker’s team might be Sawyer, who manages the night shift, or “B Team,” at NCIS Headquarters. Having appeared in several seasons, his role in NCIS Season 23, Episode 3, highlights how well he could work with Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) and Jessica Knight (Katrina Law).

With Vance’s passing, NCIS faces a major turning point. The show has been preparing for big changes, wrapping up long-running storylines for Vance and positioning other characters to potentially take on leadership roles. This is a pivotal moment in the show’s history, and while sad, it could open the door to exciting new developments.
