New York police and firefighters’ charity hockey game ends in mass brawl

A charity hockey game between New York City’s police and fire departments turned into a large fight on March 29th.

I’m a huge fan of the annual hockey games between the NYPD and FDNY! It’s such a cool tradition – apparently, it all started way back in 1974. There’s a real rivalry between the police and firefighters on the ice, and it’s awesome to watch.

Ever since, the two groups have faced off each year in a lively “Battle of the Badges,” known for its tough physical play, occasional scuffles, and competitive energy.

Heading into the 2026 game, the firefighters had a clear advantage over their opponents, with an overall record of 30 wins, 18 losses, and 3 ties. They had also won seven of the last eight games against them, with one tie.

Wow, what a game! Our team finally broke their losing streak with a 3-2 win against the firefighters, but it was a total brawl out there! There were fights throughout, and things really exploded with a huge bench-clearing fight right when the final whistle blew – it’s already gone viral! It was a tough win, but so exciting to watch.

NYPD and FDNY drop the gloves in chaotic hockey brawl

Earlier on in the game, a full line brawl broke out with every player on the ice trading blows.

Although the police, wearing green uniforms, seemed to be winning at first, the firefighters in red ultimately won more of the fights.

The intense game went down to the wire, with the firefighters making a final push to score in the last moments. However, the NYPD’s goalie played exceptionally well, blocking their attempts and securing the win.

When the buzzer went off, a new wave of fighting started, with players from both teams’ benches jumping into the fray and hitting each other.

The NYPD just won against the FDNY for the first time in ten years, and the game ended with a bit of a fight! Calling these games with the guys from Spittinchiclets at Barstool was always a highlight for me. Huge congrats to the police department for finally getting the win!

The fight lasted for about two minutes until the firefighters left, allowing the police officers to enjoy their win.

Even though the teams were rivals, they came together to donate to three important charities: the PBA Widows and Children’s Fund, the Uniformed Fire Officers Association Widows and Children’s Fund, and the Ray Pfeifer Foundation.
