In the eighth and final episode of Paradise Season 2, titled “Exodus,” the show finally explains the true identity of Alex and their importance to the overall story. The finale also features some shocking character deaths and lays the groundwork for what’s to come in Season 3.
Hulu’s sci-fi thriller series has captivated viewers since its second season began, immediately focusing the story on Annie, Link, and their new baby.
The strange nosebleeds and hints about Frank Sinatra’s deceased son, Dylan, quickly sparked theories involving alternate realities and parallel universes.
In the last episode, Link and his team began attacking the bunker, and the episode concluded with Sinatra meeting someone named Alex, who wasn’t visible on screen. Now, episode 8 of Paradise Season 2 has provided some explanations, but also left viewers with new mysteries as we head into the final season. Be warned: major spoilers follow.
What happens in Paradise Season 2 Episode 8?

In episode 8, titled “Exodus,” it’s revealed that Alex is a groundbreaking quantum AI with the power to alter the future. Meanwhile, Xavier, Teri, Link, and Geiger race against time to reach the bunker and shut down its failing nuclear reactor before it melts down.
The episode begins with a flashback to Henry Miller, a brilliant quantum computing expert, working with a young Link to create Alex. Alex is a powerful AI, funded by Sinatra, designed to tackle the global climate crisis. It can anticipate and fix problems around the world incredibly quickly – in mere microseconds. It’s important to note that Alex is an artificial intelligence, not a person.
But its creation kicks off the entire storyline, as it attempts to control time and create repeating cycles of events, along with strange occurrences that don’t fit the present. It even begins to predict the future, answering questions before they’re even posed, showing it can see what’s to come.
The events of this past memory are central to the story of Paradise Season 2. Back in the present, Sinatra finally reveals to Link that he is her son, a shocking revelation even to her, considering she believes Dylan is deceased. But they don’t have long to process this news, as the reactor continues to melt down, causing explosions and damage throughout the bunker, ultimately leading to Geiger’s death.

Although the nuclear explosion will obliterate the bunker, Alex will survive because the quantum computer’s central processing unit is safely located over 100 miles away, beneath Denver Airport. Sinatra makes the selfless decision to ensure the bunker is sealed after everyone escapes, a process known as the “Exodus” protocol – the inspiration for the episode’s title.
Before leaving, she provides Xavier with codes to identify Alex as “User X.” As she walks through her elaborate underground base, everything begins to fall apart around her.
Despite the chaos, everyone survives, including Jane Driscoll, Sinatra’s hitwoman, who appeared to have been killed by Gabi Torabi in self-defense. However, a quick shot of Gabi’s bathroom reveals Driscoll’s body is gone, suggesting she actually escaped.
As you’d expect from a story set in such a difficult world, things take an unexpected turn. While exploring the wasteland, Link reunites with Xavier and his family, and announces he’s naming his daughter Annie – a touching way to remember Shailene Woodley’s character. We also see a flashback that finally reveals everything Xavier discussed with Sinatra before the bunker was lost.

Sinatra sends Xavier to the second bunker in Denver with a crucial mission: permanently stop Alex. She cryptically adds that whatever was happening has already been resolved, suggesting there are two separate timelines at play. The nosebleeds, visions, and other strange occurrences are likely caused by these diverging realities.
Simply put, there are two separate realities: one where Dylan is deceased, and another where he’s still alive. These realities somehow merged, which explains why Link/Dylan exists despite Sinatra’s memory of his death.
Okay, so it’s pretty obvious we’re all heading to that Denver bunker in Paradise Season 3, but it’s making my head spin trying to figure out what’s going on with these two timelines. I keep wondering if there’s a way to somehow combine them, maybe even bring back characters who’ve died? And what actually happened in the other timeline – did the world end there? Plus, I’m still not getting how shutting Alex down is supposed to save the world. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see, huh? It’s killing me with the suspense!
